I found this book terrific.
OK, not everything is in that I like about Hanoi (I've been only twice before) but there is a lot that I don't know in it too, as well as some of my all time favourites. I like the style too, with boxes on topics and choices. Overall, it gets my vote.

Found this book to be useful with good maps and up to date info. Maybe a little overpriced compared to the full lonley planet guide for Vietnam.

This little book is a bit pricey compared to the full guide to Vietnam, but especially if you plan to spend more than a couple of days in Hanoi it is so worth it! It's the perfect size to carry around in a handbag, includes a full map of the city and smaller maps you can refer to for whatever area you are exploring on foot, with recommendations for sights, places to eat and shop. My only word of caution is that since the book was published in 2007, be warned that most of the prices quoted have doubled since then (even so, Vietnam is still very cheap by European/American standards).
