More About the Author

Greg Girard (b. 1955) is a Canadian photographer and artist whose work looks at the physical and social transformations that have taken place in Hong Kong, Shanghai and other places across Asia. In 1993 he published "City of Darkness", co-authored with Ian Lambot, a record of the final years of Hong Kong's infamous Kowloon Walled City. In 2007 "Phantom Shanghai" was published, listed by The Independent Newspaper (UK) as one of the top ten photography books ever published. "Hanoi Calling", published in 2010, examines the often overlooked features of daily life as the Vietnamese capital prepared to celebrate its millennium anniversary. His most recent book, "In the Near Distance", collects his earlier unpublished colour and black and white work, made between 1973 and 1986.
