The HC196D is a good tip for anyone looking for an LCD suitable for games and video. With a mere 8 ms response time, a contrast of 700:1, DVI-D and D-Sub connections and TCO 03, it is simply predestined to handle a rapidly changing picture and meet high demands.
The monitors are chic and pleasantly unobtrusive, comprising a black base, black loudspeaker panel and a silver frameSee all Product Description

The reason I purchased this monitor is because the specs and other reviews i read suggested that it should be an affordable LCD monitor that would be suitable for graphic design work.
I have to say that it really is a superb display! No dead pixels. Extremely crisp and bright image, good colour reproduction. Excellent for watching movies, gaming and using graphics applications such as photoshop or illustrator.
I should point out that the current product title is incorrect for the HCD194D. The specs are higher! It has a 700:1 contrast ratio and a maximum display resolution of 1280x1024 pixels.
If you buy this monitor you wont be disappointed!
Picture is excellent and there are no dead or stuck pixels (although this is not guaranteed)
The picture is excellent through the supplied DVI connection. I note on reviews elsewhere that there is some doubt whether this lead will continue to be included. Check!
As my first TFT I have no point of comparison. However the quality is everything I hoped for and the extremely low price makes it worth 5 stars in my book.
I am sure there are higher quality /specified TFTs out there. But not at anything like this price!
The setup is very simple - in fact the screen does it all for you in Auto-mode.
I simply cannot believe how much of a bigger image this monitor provides whilst freeing up so much space on my desk. Also the image is bright and sharp! I am not into gaming so I can't comment on how good it might or might not be for that purpose, but I have tried it out with DVD-Video and also with still photographs taken with my digital camera. On both counts it is extremely good.
As other reviewers have commented on - the internal speakers produce a very "tinny" sound - no doubt OK for general PC use with email, word procesing, and the like, but if you want to do anything with Video or Sound packages then you need separate speakers. I've decided to continue using my original Packard Bell speakers which used to be clipped on to my original monitor. Now they sit nicely behind the new one.
All in all this product has lived up to the information given on the Amazon site as provided by the manufacturer and by the various users.
THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED ...... especially at £120!
I decided to upgrade (from a mere 15" CRT), so this seemed huge in comparison. I love the large screen, no more having to scroll sideways anymore to view webpages.
Brilliant value and an eyecatching design.
It's even gone down in price since I bought it too!!!
The speakers are fine for basic use. The manufacturer's dead pixel policy seems fair (haven't had to test their service though, thankfully). The only irritation for me is the on/standby light, the placement of which can means you leave the monitor on accidentally. Not a major problem though.
Do a little research and it's hard to find a company that someone hasn't had big problems with when ordering online. Now, with a monitor, chances are that everything will be fine, but when it isn't you want to be able to sort it out quickly and painlessly. Any problems I've had with Amazon orders have always been dealt with quickly and to my satisfaction.
I can't stress enough the peace of mind that comes with getting a monitor through Amazon. Unless I was getting a really good bargain elsewhere (and when I was looking Amazon was the cheapest for what I wanted anyway), I personally wouldn't chance it for a monitor.
I know it looks like I'm shilling, but I'm not. It's just that I spent hours looking into who I could trust for this sort of order :) .
