As someone who has a decent collection of fitness DVD's (Nell McAndrew, Davina, Natalie Cassidy etc) I was keen to try this new one from Hannah Waterman. I am always a little sceptical with new workouts, only because there are so many aspects about them that can be wrong that they can turn into a real waste of money but I am really pleased to say that I didn't find this to be the case with Body Blitz. Most importantly, its really hard work and now I have done it, I am properly shattered!! I really felt it worked my entire body and I know I'll feel it tomorrow, which I always consider to be a good indication that it will be an effective and worthwhile DVD. The focus is on interval training, which I personally enjoy as you can push yourself in bursts and I have found it to be a very successful method of weight loss and fitness improvement in the past.
The DVD is split in to sections, all of which are equally hard so you could do one or all of them and see good results. Each of the three cardio sections are very intense but in a good way and I really liked the way it was well paced and I never felt bored. Each section also has a good mix of moves which work the whole body so I like the fact that if I only have 20 mins to spare I can do one section and still get a really good session.
The workout is run by a fitness chap from Loughborough University (where Hannah got a lot of her advice and guidance), who is very good in that he is genuine and isn't trying to act as a presenter. He has high energy and does a good job of keeping the motivation up without being too much. Hannah obviously works hard and seems very relaxed and "normal" so to speak when she is joining in with advice and chat (I refer here to Coleen Rooney's DVD which drove me mad because watching Coleen was like watching really bad acting). There is another guy there as well, who does the "easier" versions of some of the moves.
I read through the diet section on the DVD which seems very well balanced and achievable. I was also pleased to see that it recommended 1400 calories (rather than the 1200 favoured by some diets like Rosemary Conley), as I think you'd need the extra energy if you do this workout regularly. The only addition I would have liked here was how many calories break down to each meal e.g. how many calories for breakfast, lunch etc so I could add in some of my own meals (being vegetarian it really helps to be able to adapt it a little so its not too restrictive).
Overall I think this really is a great DVD - you have to work hard so the results will come. You'll also improve your fitness as the cardio is intense, but its good fun and in no way "celebrity" focused. Hannah talks a lot about the science behind her weight loss and diet which really add's credit to the whole thing. All round well worth it and a sure-fire way to shift those post Christmas pounds.
