A steampunk short story set between DEAD IRON and TIN SWIFT in the The Age of Steam series. Ceder Hunt gave his word to find an ancient weapon before it falls into the wrong hands. 5.0 out of 5 stars back story and filler 20 May 2014

this story gives some more detail of the travelers between stories in the books - at some point I believe it should be incorporated in the books to make for a more comprehensive story.

I enjoyed the way a word at the end of a preceding chapter was used in the beginning of the following chapter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disjointed excerpt with no ending 2 Jan. 2014

If you are reading the Age of Steam series, then don't bother with this, it's just an extended extract. If you are not reading The Age of Steam books, I still wouldn't bother with this. It uses most of her regular characters, all of whom are entertaining, and the steampunk world in her novels is very well developed. But this particular story jumps back and forth between Point Of View's after a page and a half, attempting to cleverly tie the last line of one POV to the first line of the next POV. It wasn't clever, it was distracting, and the short amount of text between chapters is so clipped you can't fully engage in either story properly. There's no ending whatsoever - you have to go to buy the book if you want a full story with a beginning, middle and end. I despise money grabs and wouldn't have purchased it at all had there been the least description attached.

Great filler for between books one and two. Explained the beginning and expanded on the characters. I love this series!
