Most Helpful Customer Reviews

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Markus Eichhorn on 13 Dec 2004
Format: Audio CD
This album comes as a bolt out of the blue. A 17-year-old smalltown American kid with a guitar, computer, microphone and an incredible gift.
Khonnor's compositions show an admirable balance and complexity given the limited equipment available to him, and an astonishing level of maturity and originality. Most of all, the album is a pleasant listen throughout and warrants repeated play. Ideal chill-out music.
'Handwriting' should appeal to fans of lo-fi indie and folktronica alike. He may not quite be the finished product; we only have to hope that he's soon let loose in a real studio to build on this early promise. Buy this now then tell all your friends that you heard him first.

my word! what an album. from time to time an album completely blows you away by it's sheer musical force.
it's complex, densely produced and brimming with ideas, but it really is a work of beauty.

such achingly beautiful tracks, sparsely sung.

4 years on, i still adore this album. perfect music to relax to in the Sun.

Khonnor has done other bits and bobs, under other names and released an EP, but why not a full-length follow up!

The album begins somewhat shakily (although all the songs are good, just not great), yet rises majestically with the unforgettable 'Dusty' and soars on to 'The Stoned Night' before returning back down to earth with a soft thud.

Tracks to look out for include the cheekily named 'An Ape is Loose' and the tense, energetic 'Phone Calls From You'.

It's something of a mixed bag, but the album's core songs make this a worthwhile buy.

This sort of sound won't win Khonnor a wide audience, but it will gain him a very loyal, if somewhat small, fanbase.

Say what you will, but underneath the fuzz, effects and bad quality recording, one cannot deny the beauty of the song writing which has gone into this album. Tracks such as "Phone Calls From You" and "Kill2" are absolutely breathtaking!

For me, the lack of any repetition whatsoever means i have to play a track a few times in a row to fully enjoy it, hence the lack of a fifth star!

Otherwise, a stellar album- i enjoy every track. I wouldn't recommend the follow-up Softbo EP as much, however.
