I bought this book based on a lot of positive reviews I read on a variety of crafting focused wedding websites. I'm a big crafter and am in the process of arranging my own wedding at the moment. I do now wonder whether any of the reviewers who's articles I've read actually tried to create anything from the book.

The positives; The book does contains some beautiful projects and I do not regret buying it. The pictures are well shot and inspiring. Also the projects are arranged by the type of wedding they might suit. This is something I haven't come across in the other wedding DIY books I've gotten. I've found this very useful when trying to maintain some sense of consistency in my own wedding style. In addition the projects are quite modern and on-trend.

The negatives; The instructions for the projects I've undertaken so far are minimal at best. In all cases I've ended up looking online for a similar project to get more thorough the step-by-step instructions. This is not necessarily a big problem as the projects are straight forward. If you are crafty and willing you can figure out the details yourself. The biggest negative (and this really bugged me) was that none of the templates or patters are included with the book. You have to go to the publishers website to download each of them (there's 33) individually. Again not an insurmountable issue (so long as the publisher continues to host them), but I do admit it made me feel a bit cheated.

I LOVE this book - it offers lots of different suggestions for crafty ideas to personalise your wedding, with hints and tips on how you can adapt it to fit your theme. It suggests some interesting places to look for inspiration (perfume bottle packaging, flea markets, etsy, ebay) and has some really cute ideas for ways to make your day your own. The best thing about it is you can combine ideas - for example, they have several invite ideas and you could use the edging from one with the embossing from another and the printing of a third to make something truly unique. They have lots of online templates to use, as well as suggestions for what things are worth tackling yourself (in terms of time and effort - e.g. making invitations, 'just married' signs, ring cushions) and what things are best left to others (wedding dress making, large scale catering). This is one of my favourite wedding books so far, along with DIY wedding by Kelly Bare (fabulous ideas, but no photos!). This has clear instructions, simple inspirational projects and beautiful photography - I'd highly recommend it. Some of the ideas are a bit eccentric, but would suit a homespun wedding - garlands made of cupcake wrappers, anyone? Some of the projects look really professional (bridesmaids' hairbands, felt corsages, ruffle roll purses) and would make great birthday/Christmas gifts at any time!

A Beautiful Book 15 Jan 2011
By smf - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book is everything you could ever want in a DIY wedding book. It's an unbelievable resource - so full of amazingly creative and clever ideas! The book is divided into six different themes: Retro Homespun, Girly Romantic, Happy Graphic, Organic Minimal, Modern Classic and Found. With around nine or ten delightful product ideas in each chapter. It's totally got something for everyone. I'm already married, but I still had to get it - it's just so full of beautiful, inspired and inspiring images. My friends and I can't get over how lovely it is.

Excellent for inspiration 13 Feb 2011
By Sara Oehler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been somewhat disappointed in most bridal magazines, shows and what not because they only offer traditional, cookie cutter ideas and options. I was very pleased to find a book that offered such nice diy ideas for my upcoming wedding. I adored the differing themes that were offered, such as "girly romantic", "modern classic", etc. The projects were fresh and in some cases very applicable to our wedding.

Good book. But a note about "Balsa Wood Invitations" 14 Mar 2012
By Nels - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I enjoyed this book and we have used some of the ideas for our wedding.

However, I would like to make people aware of an issue:
On page 133 is a design for balsa wood wedding invitations. In the instructions they say to make sure that your postage is enough to account for the weight of the entire invitation. Unfortunately, they left out the fact that rigid letters like this one also requires more postage. In our case, we were very careful to check the weight and size, but because we did not account for the rigidity, some of our invitations were returned from the post office (and in quite a poor state).
