This is truly the ultimate book on paper flower making! Yes, the price is quite frightening, but if you buy other books with less sticker shock, you will spend more than that on a collection of disappointing substitutes! I know by experience! I have a library stocked with flower-making titles that only collect dust and even if followed step-by-step lead you to less than impressive results. The HANDMADE FLOWERS FROM PAPER AND FABRIC advertised here provides detailed, illustrated instructions plus full colour photos of the finished project. The book also offers advice on what papers work best and how to convert the projects into fabric! From calico to fine satin, you can make flowers you will enjoy year round. The roses are my favourite and whether I have made them with tissue paper, crepe paper, professional grade crepe paper, muslin, calico, lace or satin to match a wedding gown, the results were stunning. So stunning, in fact, that I have taught the paper roses flower-making technique to churches, elder activity groups, children's after school groups, Scouts, craft clubs and women's clubs.

If you are like me and see the cost you think of all the other things that money could buy and you hesitate. However, if you are really interested in making high quality paper or fabric flowers that look like they were made in a paper garden (rather than a chimp with dyslexia and two left thumbs) then you will not regret this one time investment! Once you have this flower guide in your hands and flip through the pages to see what beauty you can create, you will agree that the money was well spent. If you plan to seel your flower creations, then this book could pay for itself easily because of the high quality blooms you will create. Note that this book is long out of print and very hard to come by....and that is just the basics of supply and demand economics. But another truth about economics is that gold will always have more value than tin and this book is pure gold to the collector and flower maker.

I hope this review is of some help to you. I do not receive any kickback or remuneration for my words, it is just my opinion. I truly believe in the quality and usefulness of this book and what you are easily able to create. Naturally, I would be much happier if the price were only 1/4 of what it is, but I paid almost TWICE that for my copy 5 years ago and still do not regret the purchase. Good Luck and Happy Blooms to you!

Handmade Flowers from Paper and Fabric (A David & Charles craft book) 26 Dec 2010

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Very informative book and I am looking forward to trying my hand at making many of them. I bought it because I am particularly interested in the fabric flowers to use in my millinery work. The silk flowers you buy at the craft stores generally look a little cheap if you try to use them for trimming. The plastic parts really bring down the aesthetic and value. Overall, I think that any knowledge and good information one can in this area is important. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in flower construction.
