This is an absolutely gorgeous rendition of these lovely arias. I've listened to and enjoyed the versions by Monoyios and Roschmann, but to my ear Sampson captures the spirit of the music with the right balance of vocal purity and richness and emotional depth. Monoyios is on the thin side, vocally and emotionally, while Roschmann, in contrast, seems to overdo them, and her voice does not have a typically baroque timbre. The instrumental accompaniments, as well as the oboe sonatas interspersed among the arias, are beautifully played here as well. The acoustics are rich and beautiful.
