I had this recording(since it was first issued) on Casette,and now have it on CD(especially at the great price).
The sound is sharper and clearer on CD,than on Casette.
However,what I am leaving a review for is,to just say that it has to be one of the best Handel opera recordings ever.
You might ask,what makes it so?
Well,
Consider the cast:~
Janet Baker
Edith Mathis
Norma Burrowes
David Rendall
James Bowman
Samuel Ramey
All here at the peak of their careers.
and brought together,and conducted by Raymond Leppard.
I won't bore you(I could!) by going into detail about this recording.Just to say that the whole cast sings like a dream, and really put their hearts into it.
If you know Handel you won't be disappointed,and if you are new to Handel(Opera) it's an excellent start.
At this price you cannot go wrong.

I enjoyed this recording very much. Janet Baker is absolutely brilliant but all of the other singers deliver also. I was most disappointed, however, to discover that the booklet did not include the libretto, merely a synopsis of the plot in English, French and German. It was not clear from the details provided on the Amazon website that this was the case, and I must say I felt short-changed, because I always like to follow the libretto as I listen to an opera. The golden rule seems to be that if the data supplied doesn't say explicitly that the libretto is included, then the chances are that it's not. I'll know better next time.
