A lovely recording, but surpassed by Bonizzoni's,
By E. L. Wisty "If you hear about C. P. Snow exp... (Devon, UK) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Handel: Aminta e Fillide (Audio CD)
Had I not heard Bonizzoni's Aminta e Fillide which forms part of his seven disc series of Handel's Italian period cantatas before this recording, I would have unhesitatingly given this five stars. Gillian Fisher as Aminta and Patrizia Kwella as Fillide are two technically excellent singers and director Denys Darlow certainly doesn't do anything wrong, but Bonizzoni with his vocalists Maria Grazia Schiavo and Nuria Rial take this work, which is in my opinion taken as a whole the loveliest example of Handel's oeuvre, to another level entirely with its exuberance and vitality.Get the Bonizzoni release if you can. In fact, get all seven of the series. You owe it to yourself. The accompanying booklet provides some notes in English, French & German, with libretto plus English translation.

Italian with an American accent,

Handel: Aminta e Fillide
The music is, as always with Handel, great. But one of the singers sings Italian with a rather stubborn American accent. |
