Product Description

Review

This illustrated guide gives instruction in basic skills in stitches with a textile directory as a bonus. There are over 70 fabrics and many machine and hand stitches suitable for all skill levels. This is a very handy reference for any sewer. It was previously published as Sewing Stitch Bible.-yarnsandfabrics.co.uk/crafts The title of this book is slightly deceptive; this book is much more than just a handbook of sewing stitches. It is also a guide to tools and equipment, techniques and a textile directory. It may be compact but it is packed with information. In the stitch directory section there is a photo of each stitch, step by step instructions on how to do it with accompanying diagrams plus advice on when to use it, with which fabrics and alternative stitches. The techniques section covers various hems, seams, edges, buttonholes and zip techniques. The fabric section describes the fabrics, tells you what garments and projects it is best used for, gives cutting advice and sewing suggestions. There is a detailed index at the back to you can easily find whatever you want. This is a very useful reference guide for sewists.-Sewingdirectory.co.uk This little book is just the thing to have to hand if you use your embroidery talents for a wide range of projects. It contains directions for decorative hand embroidery stitches but it features many other things too. For example, there are stitches that can be created with a sewing machine and overlocker as well as many hints and tips on how to create a professional finish for buttonholes, zips and seams. The book includes a textile directory that details a wide range of fabrics, their uses and how to work with them. With this guide you will always be able to make the best out of any project and turn your hand to a wide range of sewing techniques.-New Stitches This has got to be one of the most practical little books that we've come across. At first glance, I thought it was a straightforward stitch dictionary - but it's so much more than that. Yes, it includes clear instructions for some decorative hand embroidery stitches, but it also explains various methods for attaching sequins and beads. Sewing machine stitches are also covered, so, if you're not confident when using a sewing machine, you'll find the descriptions of adjusting zigzag stitching, blind hemming and gathering very useful. If you want to do a bit of dressmaking or tailoring or just make of piece of your embroidery into a cushion, bag or garment, the section on seams, hems, edges and fastenings is a real boon. This would be a great book for beginners, but more experienced stitchers are sure to find a lot of good tips and techniques here too.-Stitch This is a brilliant book jam packed with 250 pages sewing techniques including hand stitches, machine stitches and decorative stitches and is really well illustrated. The book also has a textile directory which includes advice on working with all kinds of fabrics. -Makeandcraft.com/Crafty-painter

The title of this book is slightly deceptive; this book is much more than just a handbook of sewing stitches.

The techniques section covers various hems, seams, edges, buttonholes and zip techniques again with photos, diagrams and step by step instructions. The fabric section describes the fabrics, tells you what garments and projects it is best used for, gives cutting advice and sewing suggestions. There is a detailed index at the back to you can easily find whatever you want.

This is a very useful reference guide for sewists.
