This extreme fringe of the sport is becoming increasingly popular as more and more glider pilots seek a greater challenge from their flying. This excellent book is designed to complement aerobatics instruction and is certainly not intended to replace it. However, when you realise that glider aerobatics practice in the UK costs £360/hour, a book that helps you learn faster is a great investment!

Glider aerobatics is what you want it to be. You may only want to fly the occasional loop. However, good training (like this book) will make progress so natural you will suddenly realise that you can now fly aerobatics that you had once considered far beyond your ability. Glider aerobatics is an empowering experience, and buying this book is the start of your adventure. No glider pilot should be without it.

As I ordered this book, it was my second soaring book at all. I did not expected so well written, illustrated and structured handbook to be written on that subject. Therefore I was very positively surprised, as I got the book.

I personally think, that this is the obligatory book for every soaring pilot. It gives to the pilot through explanations about the limits of one's glider and greatly improves awareness about everything, what can happen to the airplane while airborne. Practicing aerobatics improves pilot's skill and discipline, but even without practicing aerobatics, the book will give to the pilot much better possibility to survive in unexpected situations.

A welcome addition to aerobatic literature 23 Mar 2005
By ragwing - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
There are more than a few books on powered aerobatics, but - to the best of my knowledge - this is one of only two dealing with the specialized subject of saiplane aerobatics. Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs and helpful diagrams, the book is an excellent and thorough introduction to the sport. My only criticism is the absence of any commentary on the only two aerobatic gliders in current production, namely the SZD-59 Acro and the DG 303 Elan Acro.

Good info at a good price 16 Aug 2011

This is a British book, so sometimes the vocabulary has a few minor "issues," but for anyone with any interest in aerobatics it's quite clear.

I found the book to be informative and useful. I just did a short aerobatic course in England and my instructor was the proofreader for this book.

As you read the book, try to visualize the control inputs and the aircraft's attitude; it will help you.

I am comfortable recommending this book and/or Les Horvath's book from the SSA. There are other aerobatic books, but very little that focusses on gliders. We have a number of energy management issues, and primacy says it would be better not to print power plane concepts on your brain first. I don't think you would regret buying this book.

This book is cheaper in the US through Amazon than it is in the UK!
