Product Description

Review

This comprehensive work...provides a thorough and contemporary examination of the field of comparative politics and various central questions within it...there is more than enough material here (including detailed references) to keep scholars and bring graduate students completely up to date; indeed the analyses are often cutting edge. Lastly, inasmuch as this handbook series aspires to shape the discipline and not just describe it, many chapters in this handbook usefully conclude with a precise outline of the future research agenda as seen by the author. (Alan Siaroff Politics Studies Review)

The Oxford View of Comparative Politics 29 Nov. 2012
By Michael Griswold - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
At a massive 1000 pages, it's safe to say that the Oxford Handbook of Comparative Politics has all of the major bases in comparative politics from the theoretical arguments like behaviorism, institutionalism, rational choice, etc. to more concrete phenomena like party systems, elections and voting, democratizations, protests, and much more. Most of the chapters are written in a fairly straightforward manner, which is always an asset when one is dealing with some of the complex topics covered in the book. Overall, a very useful text for political science graduate students with the proper supplementary readings. It's four pound weight doesn't exactly contribute to portability, so clear some space on a sturdy shelf, or order all the Oxford Handbooks and collapse a shelf :)
