'Kjell Eriksson's crime novels are among the very best' Henning Mankell

Product Description

THE SENSATIONAL NEW THRILLER FROM THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE PRINCESS OF BURUNDI Uppsala, Sweden. Sven-Arne Persson suddenly walks out of a business meeting and disappears, leaving behind his wife - no trace is found of him. Inspector Ann Lindell is investigating the discovery of a dismembered foot washed up on the beach. Ann's boss, Berglund, is delving into a cold case - a man beaten to death - an unsolved mystery that he finds impossible to forget. What connects the three? It will be a challenge for Ann Lindell to unravel the knots and discover what ties bind the cases together. Kjell Eriksson is the winner of two Crime Novel awards in Sweden and one of Scandinavia's top selling authors. Translated by Let the Right One In's Ebba Segerberg

This is the fourth of Kjell Eriksson's novels ,featuring the
Uppsala detective Ann Lindell,to be published in English. It is
a complex captivating thriller that skillfully weaves together
three stories.
Sven-Arne Persson is the leader of the local council, when he
walks out of a council meeting never to be seen again. The locals
consider that he has killed himself.However,12 years later he is
spotted by a Swedish businessman, living frugally in India.Back in
Uppsala,Ann Lindell is investigating the discovery of a disembodied
foot, whilst her boss,Berglund,is recovering from an operation ,and
looking into an old unsolved case concerning a man bludgeoned to
death in his home.
Eriksson is a literary writer more concerned with characterisation
and motivation ,than with gung-ho action, and this is his most
adventurous and rewarding novel to date.

An excellent book that kept my interest throughout. Kjell Erikson is an excellent writer and provides good characterisations and plot. The story does not depend on "derring do" and exploding helicopters.

It is interwoven with several apparently different stories.

I did not want the book to end.

Very good book 21 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback
I received the paperback as a gift at Christmas and have thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Very credible both in the characters and the storylines. Until glancing at the other reviews I was unaware that it is the fourth in a series.

The book starts oddly and it was page turning not because of high excitement but intense curiosity as to how the character could possibly be in that situation. There are fantastic moments throughout the book and separate stories are easily and naturally woven together.

You tend to expect brooding darkness with Swedish writers - it is almost a pre-requisite - but this is perfectly normal and there are no unnatural or extended dark moments. One moment to mention is when the lead female detective is trying to recall a fleeting memory and she retraces her steps - such a normal and familiar move!

And congratulations to the translator for some of the almost poetic language, for example "Tears searched their way down the wrinkled cheeks and the wiry whiskers on his chin."
