5.0 out of 5 stars excellent 23 Jan 2012
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover-spiral
This book scores on all points - production - well designed layout, excellent photos, good sturdy cover and with the spiral binding the book lays flat. Content - great ideas put forward in an easy to use manner, lovely designs and fresh inspiration. The author talks us through hand printing from origins, pattern and design - this is a good introduction. We then go collecting natural objects for printing. I like the guidelines here, the sections on pressing plants - flowers and leaves. The flowers are remarkable and I cannot wait to try this out. There's also solid information on drying plants. The information on hand printing is thorough with regard to inks, paper and the other materials you need. The methods are explained with step by step photos and examples of work. I like the tips for getting better prints. The projects are great too. This is one of my favourite books on hand printing. This review first appeared on yarnsandfabrics website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting 27 Aug 2013

Full of ideas and well written. Unique ideas and many of them reasonably simple. The photos are good and the finished products shown are very nice indeed.

There was historical background, and clear instructions.

It is well laid out which made it visually pleasing I found the book quite stimulating.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good presentation, but.... 3 Nov 2012
Format:Hardcover-spiral|Verified Purchase
...shame about the "art". The front cover looks different, a little quirky and different from more studious printing at home books, but that is the best bit sadly, I think. The ideas for how to print simply are fine and to be honest can be found in many books (although yet again this is a US book so resource links are limited), and the photography is lovely, but the actual prints produced are a bit, well, infant school, not matching the skill of the photography and certainly not developing or inspiring ideas for making a piece that means something. Good if you want to make a bookmark or birthday card with a leaf print on front, that's why two stars, not so if you want to develop some creativity in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful-Inside and Out 16 Nov 2011
By Elissa Campanella - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover-spiral
I recently received a copy of Ms. Bethmann's book as a gift. With great anticipation I read it and was not disappointed. Visually the book is a work of art in itself. With fluid and clearly written directions, and photos that demonstrate techniques so well, this is a book for both novice and advanced nature printers. The variety of objects printed unleashed my own creative visions and I can't wait to apply the techniques. I too ordered more copies to give as gifts, a rich book with an affordable price tag!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful in its own right 26 Feb 2013
By Jill V. Svoboda - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover-spiral|Verified Purchase
I bought this book to learn more about various leaf printing techniques for fabrics and papers, and it does not disappoint. Its presentations are thorough (but require reading carefully, as sometimes key information is tucked away in a side note). The book is itself a work of art!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal 13 Mar 2012
By Moe Jaster - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover-spiral
Laura Bethmann isn't just an artist and writer; she has established herself as a respected thought-leader for a style of artistic expression that began so long ago and will endure as long as nature allows. This book not only explains the past (Bethmann's thorough history of nature printing is fascinating), but pushes ahead to the future. Her projects are creative, innovative -- yet somehow familiar, intuitive. Though I'd never have thought to print some of these objects, or to adorn household items like chairs or lampshades, I found myself thinking "why did I never think of this before?" Bethmann is a thoughtful writer who cares for her reader. This book was meant to inspire, not to merely instruct. A job well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars many reasons to love it! 7 Nov 2011
By L.J.Halsey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover-spiral
Laura Bethmann's newest book is perfect for my book library for more than one beautiful reason! I realize I choose my books first based on visual appeal. This one is actually a work of art. Next I want a book that is packed with useful information and clear to follow (if instructional). This book lay out is highly functional and makes the "how to" easy to display while applying. Finally - there are SO many projects - I'll have a source to turn to in every season! ps -almost forgot - perfect book for gift giving!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough 10 Feb 2014
By bruce w. gibson - Published on Amazon.com

the book was too basic with not much imagination for my tastes. Had a couple of ideas, but not worth buying the whole book. I would not recommend this book for those looking for more advanced techniques and ideas
