5.0 out of 5 stars excellent 23 Jan 2012
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover-spiral
This book scores on all points - production - well designed layout, excellent photos, good sturdy cover and with the spiral binding the book lays flat. Content - great ideas put forward in an easy to use manner, lovely designs and fresh inspiration. The author talks us through hand printing from origins, pattern and design - this is a good introduction. We then go collecting natural objects for printing. I like the guidelines here, the sections on pressing plants - flowers and leaves. The flowers are remarkable and I cannot wait to try this out. There's also solid information on drying plants. The information on hand printing is thorough with regard to inks, paper and the other materials you need. The methods are explained with step by step photos and examples of work. I like the tips for getting better prints. The projects are great too. This is one of my favourite books on hand printing. This review first appeared on yarnsandfabrics website.

There was historical background, and clear instructions.

It is well laid out which made it visually pleasing I found the book quite stimulating.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good presentation, but.... 3 Nov 2012
Format:Hardcover-spiral|Amazon Verified Purchase
...shame about the "art". The front cover looks different, a little quirky and different from more studious printing at home books, but that is the best bit sadly, I think. The ideas for how to print simply are fine and to be honest can be found in many books (although yet again this is a US book so resource links are limited), and the photography is lovely, but the actual prints produced are a bit, well, infant school, not matching the skill of the photography and certainly not developing or inspiring ideas for making a piece that means something. Good if you want to make a bookmark or birthday card with a leaf print on front, that's why two stars, not so if you want to develop some creativity in my opinion.
