Product Description

Product Description

Shunned from birth, Thane is eventually cast out because of his unique endowment of all five Tane. Saved by Jack, a HuMan, thought by Thanes people to be simple myths, Thane is hurled into a foreign world that he must make his own if he hopes to survive. When his only friends, Dor and Tam, try to find and help him, they are caught and tortured by a massive gathering of trolls that could bring about the annihilation of all races. Now, in a desperate search to find and save his friends, Thane must come to grips with his powers and himself before all is lost to the gathering storm of evil. An epic tale of good versus evil, Hand of Fire is a written tapestry of emotion that will draw in readers of all genres and not let them go until the last word is devoured.

4.0 out of 5 stars there is a lot here 16 Sep 2013
By Quil - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is a lot of multi-threads in the plot to pull a variety of characters together. At first it may seem like the writer is moving between different threads with no connection. It gets a bit confusing in the beginning with him laying out these multiple subplots with what seems like no relationships.

BUT if you persevere you will start to make sense of all the players and the how and why the multi-players interconnect. Book two really starts bringing it together.

This is not a "follow just the main character" from beginning to end series. While you have the main character, there is development for all the main players and how they will connect. All the names are important but won't be revealed till later. While I found it a bit confusing at first (and likely you will too) this series develops all the main characters not just the quote "hero".

If you like a deeper plot, character development, and multi-story threads you will like this series. Hang in there through the beginning and you will like what you find.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly enjoyable. Occasionally disapointing. 23 Sep 2013

Most of the book was great-obviously written by an intelligent person. Other parts seemed to have been written by someone to whom the English language was learned by watching TV--homonyms misused, mostly, but also some silly conjugation problems. This is usually not a problem for me, but it was annoying this time.

Also, be prepared--this is not an author who knows the meaning of the word closure. By that, I mean the book does not reach a satisfying conclusion and is ended with a cheap cliffhanger.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great new book in fantasy 19 Aug 2013
By Helen Andreou - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is written from the viewpoint of a host of nonhuman characters that are just recently rediscovering that humans exist. I thought that this was a very unique and interesting approach to take, and that it added to the book greatly. The world that this book is set in is wild and exciting, making for a great book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Got really boring 20 Sep 2013
By Marsha - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
At first this book started as interesting but as I keep reading it started to get monotonous. It seems like all the characters are a bunch of cry babies always crying about everything. It is very drug out and not a lot of action I ended up skipping through description after description hoping it would get better to no avail.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Worthwhile Read For Fantasy Enthusiasts 11 Aug 2013
By Blake Paul - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
While fantasy is not the genre I read the most, I certainly read a fair bit of it, and Hand of Fire and the subsequent books in the Master of the Tane trilogy merit the attention of anybody looking for an engaging fantasy read. For me, it took about 50 pages for the book to really get its hooks into me, but after that, the action was well-paced and compelling. Tom Rath is solid in his plotting and setting, but it in his character development that his writing really shines. You really become enmeshed in their adventures and become involved in their moments of anguish and triumph. Between the richly imagined characters and some enjoyably unique attributes of the world in which the action occurs, there is plenty here to set the books apart from the avalanche of formulaic and pedestrian fantasy available, and it is certainly worthy of your time and attention, as well as your $2.99.
