I love poetry. I particularly like love poems. So this book is up there with my absolute favourites in this genre.
The unique thing about poetry that deals with the complicated matter of love is that it can range from utter despair to all consuming euphoria - and it depends entirely on the writer's experience and perspective. This book contains a poem from each writer which appears alongside their favourite love poem by a writer of the opposite sex. This perfect combination gives us a unique insight into the writer's psyche - probably more so than if each had submitted two poems of their own writing. There are haunting and beautiful contributions from writers spanning several centuries, but each is ageless and as relevant today as they were the day they were written. My personal favourite is Paul Durcan's "The difficulty that is marriage" - an unusual title for a poem which in my opinion makes the perfect wedding reading.
I can guarantee this book will stay with you for the rest of your life and will help you through times when you feel the voices are speaking directly to you, times when you think "That's it. That's exactly how I feel.".

this is edited by Carol Ann Duffy it is not a collection of her own peoms. I was disapointed in this only because I am quiet specific in what I like in poetry and I found this collection in parts hard work. I enjoyed about half the book. its worth checking out the list of aurthors first to see if you enjoy them on the whole
