The 1996 Jimi Hendrix Memorial Tour of 1996 saw The Hamsters perform across the UK and Europe to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the untimely passing of Jimi Hendrix.
"Band Of Gerbils" sees them bring that show to The Square in Harlow (where they filmed their first Video "Burnin' Vermin" - also recently re-released on DVD).
Anyone who has seen The Hamsters perform Hendrix numbers doesn't need to be told how Slim (Guitar/Vocals), Zsa Zsa (Bass Guitar) and Otis (Drums) brings Hendrix's music alive. However, unlike most tribute bands, The Hamsters don't just copy the originals, they interpret and develop each number whilst remaining true to the spirit of the original.
Delivered as always with great humour, the music is treated with serious respect and Hendrix and Hamsters fans will not be disappointed with this presentation. All the hits are there, as well as some overlooked classics, some of which even Hendrix never performed live.
As with the other re-issues of their DVDs, Kurt Adkins has done an excellent job of transferring the original Analogue Video Recording. The picture quality is surprisingly sharp and the sound quality is exceptional.
As a point of interest, the DVD has a different track listing to the Double CD "The Jimi Hendrix Memorial Concerts." Anyone who's seen The Hamsters will know that no two shows are the same, so buying both will give you the full cross-section of songs that they performed over the tour, giving you the full "Experience" (Every Pun intended!)

Despite the "pub" setting this sounds really good. They are well known for continuous gigging and for keeping the Jimi Spirit alive. This dvd will
demonstrate just how dedicated they are by playing such a wide spectrum of
Jimi's music but with their own flavour and hint of humour. Not to be confused with "Tribute Band" they don't dress up and wear wigs - well may be at home !

I brought this after hearing people talking about how close to the 'real thing' the Hamsters Hendrix set was. Oh Dear, I can only assume these people have not heard very much jimi Hendrix, the guitar sound is over distorted and although the playing is competent enough contains nothing of the feeling, ingenuity, and Blazing Virtuosity of Jimi's. I would suggest if you are after the original 'experience' then try an original hendrix dvd. The over all sound if the dvd is fairly good though and if its standard luke warm tribute style entertainment youre after then this is fine.

Its just really nothing like jimi.
