I have been listening to Motorhead since 1977. I still anticipate each release in much the same way as I did waiting for "Overkill", "Bomber", "No Sleep" and "Ace of Spades".
The question that most listeners will ask, is this album up to scratch? The answer, an emphatic yes.
What the trio have delivered is a melodically assured hard rock album. The majority of the numbers clocking in at around 4 and a half minutes. We are presented with mostly mid paced pieces. On first listen what struck me was that no one number stood out. Rather this has the feel of a complete album. On subsequent spins the layers of guitars, bass, drums and keyboards become more apparent. Vocally it is very easy to follow. Though I must admit the first time I heard the track "No Remorse" it sounded more like "Hungry Horace" in the chorus.
Lemmy is on fine lyrical form here. Topics covered include War, Poverty, Homelessness, Religion, Death, the absurdity of life, and women as well. If this sounds dull it's not. Check out "Doctor Love" full of double entendres and puns to make you chuckle and wince, whilst furiously nodding your head.
In much the same way as the last three studio albums, "Overnight Sensation", "Snake Bite Love" and "We Are Motorhead", this is an album which rewards with repeated listening.
I've docked a star as the final two numbers, "Red Raw" a bit of a thrasher (Motorhead are best when they swing) and "Serial Killer" a short spoken word piece are fairly ordinary. This band does much better, check out the fabulous "Overnight Sensation" for proof.
This is a double CD Package. The first disc is the album, 11 tracks. The second disc contains three audio tracks "Shoot You In The Back" and "R.A.M.O.N.E.S" live at Wacken Open Air 2001. "The Game" written by Triple H of WWF fame. This disc contains a CD extra as well, a sixteen minute preview of the DVD "Boneshaker". A must buy for any fan. This can be played in a MAC or PC.
Packaging is a foldout cardboard digibox. There is an eight page lyric booklet. The album cover is as ever by Joe Petagno. Another reworking of the famous Motorhead emblem. More interestingly the inner liner of the CD has another version by Petagno. In this the Motorhead is a ghastly green apparition. This would make an excellent T-Shirt design.
Mind you what a terrible album title.
