Product Description

Set in Viking Britain in 871 AD, Hammer of the Gods is a visceral, intense tale set in a world whose only language is violence. A young Viking warrior, Steinar (Charlie Bewley), is sent by his father the king on a quest to find his estranged brother, who was banished from the kingdom many years before. Steinar's epic journey across terrifyingly hostile territory gradually sees him emerge as the man his father wants him to be -- the ruthless and unforgiving successor to his throne.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action packed fun 25 Aug 2013
Format:DVD
This isn't a Hollywood Blockbuster with an over inflated budget and A list superstars. This is a British film with a modest budget, a cast of fine young actors and some British acting royalty. With that in mind I highly recommend this film.

If you like fast paced action, violence and a great cast, you'll love it. Many of the cast went on to star in the excellent drama "Vikings" (this was made first) which just shows the quality assembled here.
With action from start to finish, twists and turns along the way, Stunning cinematography and direction, Hammer of the gods is well worth a watch. If you want big budget Hollywood floss, watch Troy. If you want red blooded British grit, watch Hammer of the Gods.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very good 23 July 2013
Format:Blu-ray
If you are going to steal from Conrad at least make it grand and over-blown like "Apocalypse Now" This is "Horrible Histories" meets "Heart of Darkness" in yet ANOTHER journey to find the missing man who turns out to be a lunatic tale. Photography is good but that's about it. Dialogue is grating and any period film that introduces characters with on screen titles for their names should be outlawed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hammer Of The Gods 6 Aug 2013
Format:DVD
There are a few things in life that are undeniably awesome. Ninjas, pirates, zombies and so on. Firmly in that list are Vikings! As a fan of many Viking-themed films such as Valhalla Rising and The 13th Warrior, I was really looking forward to checking this film out. Thankfully I was not disappointed.

Hammer Of The Gods is a fantastic film and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's full of action right from the start and has a great climax too. A descent plot that sees the Vikings venturing into the land of the Saxons, with plenty of tension and lots of gore too. The way the Vikings and the Saxons look is quite new too, which I really enjoyed. It's great fun! The lead actor is also very easy on the eyes too - which always helps.

Well worth checking out!

3.0 out of 5 stars Left me wanting something more 27 Aug 2013
By PJ Rankine TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Blu-ray
The writer of this movie must be an aficionado of quest type computer games like 'Baldur's Gate' because that is what this film is like. A group of warriors wandering the countryside on a quest, encountering odd characters to interact with and bad guys to kill. Apart from telling you that they are on a quest for a dying king to find his previously banished oldest son that's the movie in a nutshell.
There are no bad guys or good guys, just Vikings and Saxons with a slight nod to the incoming threat of Christianity.
The film looks gorgeous; I'm going to assume it was filmed in Wales because some scenes appear to have been spoken in Welsh, and the countryside is beautiful and well filmed. The characters all perform well and look authentically grubby, the violence is brutal and unremitting but the whole experience just left me feeling something was missing.
It was nice to see Alexandra Dowling who's part as Rosalyn Frey in Game of Thrones was so short and you'll spot some classic British actors here but unless you're into the aforementioned games or brutal violence it may leave you feeling the same way.

Supposedly about Vikings and Anglo-Saxons [about which I had wanted to learn more !]. No way. This was a cheap 'historical romance' with little apparent foundation in history. Essentially a number of warring gangs fighting alone and independent of surrounded villages or any other societies - of either side! - on 'blasted heaths' which looked less like 'middle England' than some non-English countryside. The dialogue was as far removed from middle England as one could get - more reminiscent of street gangs in a modern British city with the 'F' word much used!! I think highly unlikely that it even existed in the 7th / 8th centuries. Filmed in blue hazes with poor soundtrack the main beneficiaries being that it was difficult to hear and almost impossible to view the actions. The most beneficial attraction of this terrible spoof on early British history!

1.0 out of 5 stars Snot movie 16 April 2014
By Thoht
Format:DVD
Considering that almost nobody anymore except a quit few people actually understand the old norse mysticism and knowledge then its freaking embarrising for me to sit and watch these kind off snotty movies.first The world is flat, because the freaking galaxy is flat did anyone for real believe that they ment the freking planet how many alive on this planet are that dum, second all the norse legnds have truth inside its not made up beliefs but actually tales off real people, its not metafores its not dreams it was real veryvery long time ago.second iff you read the old tales correct you will understand that they have been to the south pole around 10000 bc plus minus 2000 years.just read and understand the tales.and to the end i wil say this, the rainbow bridge called bifrost was a place on the planet before the cataclysm,so how many today know where that place was,i do because im the last runemaster

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst films I have seen for quite a long time.
In the first 5 minutes there is a viking fight scene, to rock music, where each of the main characters has a freeze frame where their name comes up in metallic writing. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful
Don't waste your money! Utterly boring! This is just a lazy money making ploy; would not dignify it by calling it a film. Seriously pathetic attempt at a brilliant subject.
