Hammer of Angels 27 Feb. 2014
By Beth H - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Alix Nico is back in this non-stop, action packed, emotional thrill ride! Code named Scarlet, she is the ultimate action heroin with bionic and medical enhancement creating the perfect top secret agent called a Level!

Hammer of Angels begins with Scarlet suffering from a deep loss. Anxious for a new assignment, Scarlet jumps at a chance to infiltrate Greater Germany with a new partner, Darwin. Together there assignment is to cause havoc with Greater Germany’s human slavery policy, encompassing all of the Jewish population…thereby keeping Greater Germany from aligning with Russia and China. But it seems trouble always follows Scarlet, especially when the mission takes a very unexpected turn.

Together with a rag tag team including a renowned rebel leader, underground railroad coordinators, a few unexpected clones and other agents, Scarlet and Darwin wreak mayhem while running for their lives. During the way, surprising revelations are discovered about the enemy’s cloning program and Scarlet uncovers that her father just happens to be one of their prisoners.

This is my first read by G.T. Almasi and I can tell you I am now a fan! Hammer of Angels blew me away with its fast paced, explosive story line with wonderfully realistic characters in this totally alternate reality. The bionic and medical enhancements would thrill any science fiction fan while the alternate history tweaks the perfect cord for my dystopia fix. Supernatural abilities, emotionally besieged and heart wrenchingly human, G.T. Almasi writes a superb science fiction adventure! 5 Stars!

This copy of Hammer of Angels was given to me by Random House - Del Rey in exchange for an honest review.

Brash alternative history with a serious core 5 Mar. 2014

If there was any serious quibble I could have had with this book's predecessor, "Blades of Winter," it might be that it was so fizzy, so busy, I COULDN'T quibble with it. It was a video game writ large, and meant to be enjoyed in a spirit of sheer escapism. This I certainly did.

But with this book, something different is going on. While undeniably escapist (I lost track of the cartoon-y body count) the heart of "Hammer" is deep and serious. For example, 1981 versions of Anne and Margot Frank -- the women they might have been, had Hitler actually been assassinated in 1942 -- play important roles. Justice, bloody and extreme, is served to a new version of the SS and Gestapo.

And our narrator, Alix Nico ("Scarlet"), through as quippy and deadly as ever, is coping with a serious case of PTSD. Her role in this outing is to disrupt the Greater Germany that has enslaved Europe since the end of WW II. She disappears into England and France, ready to rain vengeance on German slaveholders, yet still dealing with heartbreak over the loss of her partner Trick, and her father, "Big Bertha." She is damaged this time around, and it makes us care about her more.

As always, author Almasi's wordplay and humor help defuse the constant ass-kicking his team of Levels deliver. Yet underneath it all, I felt the soul of Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" -- the desire to deliver the justice that real history denied us. True, Alix sounds like no 20-year old girl I've ever known; but the silly romp has become surprisingly relevant , and I can't quibble with that.
An Exciting Must Read Sequel 18 Mar. 2014

I highly recommend reading Hammer of Angels. It is a fast-paced, action-packed, sci-fi novel that is not for the faint of heart (bloody violence) but will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you put the rest of your life on hold until its over. This exciting sequel to Blades of Winter introduces the reader to a new set of invincible and menacing characters and a wild ride of explosive adventures. The only question I have for the incredible, novelist, G.T. Almasi, is when do we get to find out what Alix Nico, his unstoppable and intriguing heroine, is up to next? The suspense is killing me! ☺
Page turner 3 July 2014

This book is great. Every page has something hysterical or action filled in it. From Alix's first mission on Carbon to helping free the Jews now she never failed to make me laugh.
Another outstanding episode 18 Jun. 2014

I really love this series. Scarlet seems like a cross between the Bionic Woman and Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. Her cavalier attitude and approach to her missions remind me of how young people think and act.

There's plenty of action and the ongoing thread about Fredericks is really keeping me waiting for the next volume. This is a really fun read and even better if you've reade Blades of Winter. Can't wait for the next installment.
