Agent Hamilton is a fairly refreshing non-Hollywood take on a spy/action thriller. In this second installement he is about to embark on a private mission, saving his god daughter from a Saudi extremist, who kidnapped her to teach her mother - also a Swedish intelligence officer - a lesson. The fact that the Saudi extremist (oil fed) enjoys support from both the CIA and some former SAS mercenaries is an added complication (whether believable or not is another matter).

The action takes place in Sweden, London, Lebanon - he again gets lots of support from Mona, a PLO counterintelligence operative - and Saudi Arabia and is not of the huge explosion over the top type but rather kept fairly believable, if frequent. In that aspect the movie is much more in the vein of Heat [DVD] [1995] than The Expendables [DVD].

The protagonist - Agent Hamilton of Swedish Intelligence - is certainly a multidimensional character, and is not shying away from breaking the odd rule.

Overall, if you are a fan of the more believable end of action movies, this is definitely worthwhile sampling. It is not essential to watch Hamilton: In the Interest of the Nation ( Hamilton: I nationens intresse ) beforehand to understand the movie but doing so will provide some additional background on the characters (many are the same), which may well be helpful.
