A heartwarming story of a young man who falls in love with a woman who has been through tragic circumstances.... Yet another superb performance from Ashwariya rai and Anil Kapoor.... Very easy watching and capable of bringing a tear to anyones eyes!!! Beautifully filmed, really well put together. Excellent music and songs.. Very different plot to the love triangle... A film to see!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Film 1 Dec 2007

This film is one of my favorite Indian movies.. I just love the 2 main characters, and the main song that's still stuck in my head. It's got a little bit of everything, and I'd highly recommend it. Not exactly a typical Indian movie, and there are a few boring bits with the side characters, but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

VERY FAST PACED FILM WITH A LOT of action. It's in the hero fighting for his new found lady genre. This has some romance, and a few dramatic family scenes. Pretty good balance. This is not a dark and depressing movie . I avoid those like the plague. It does deal with the harsh topic of a young woman who was assaulted in an act of revenge against her swearing out a complaint on a hoodlum. The movie is started out with a family enjoying itself in a planned fun day at an amusement park. It uses quick sequenced flashbacks to introduce her past trauma. There are two strong female characters that are supportive and intelligent. They help offset the village idiots who are portraying the supposed moral people. Anil Kapoor steals the show by fighting so many battles for Aish that he takes on the shine of an action hero. Aish is her usual luminescent self and convincingly plays a woman with great joy and strength inside her even if she had it dimmed for a portion of her life . The absolute message is one of strength of character and support can conquer all , with of course some help from your friends. Enjoyed this movie and have watched it several times. One thing you should know this film doesn't do revisionist sensitivity. It was what it was. It is what it is. It doesn't have to stay that way...That's the message it's showing you over and over while it crushes myths and informs.

Anil not only has a lot of action scenes, he has a lot of speeches. One of them, of course, is the knee jerk reaction of why can't you get over this within 15 minutes because I'm uncomfortable and after all I gave you a rousing speech . This of course just upsets her more. He is actually trying to be supportive he just doesn't know how to say it in the presence of a sobbing woman . He's better at showing his support through his actions not his words . A job , a place to stay, telling off the neighborhood biddies, those actions speak louder than any perfect words of comfort he could possibly offer.

PLOT

AISH'S character witnesses a crime while walking to work . A large and docile crowd is being forced to witness a gangland hood having an old school teacher beat and stabbed. The teacher lodged a complaint against the mafia hood for land grabbing. Anil is driving by at the same time and he takes the victim to the hospital while Aish naively goes to file a complaint against the thugs. When she sees Anil's character later in the evening she ask's after the man, he tells her he's alive and she says the police are probably wailing on the crooks he ask's who stood as witness she says she did. He is floored and says that was brave of you ...Her father was angry because she's bought possible retribution to their doorstep . She unfortunately turns down a ride home from Anil because he's still a stranger to her and she is assaulted on the way home. You just see her dragged into a car by the brother of the evil criminal don and then coming home five seconds later destroyed looking ,she's pooring buckets of water over her head over and over, sobbing on the floor while her father says it's her fault she's destroyed their family by testifying against the goons who of course got released by the corrupt local policeman.... Our poor baby has a Total Creep for a father who's only concern is for himself. Basically he calls his traumatized daughter an albatross around their necks.

This isn't an episode of Law and Oder SUV...her father is an extreme presentation of derogatory behavior towards an assault victim so as to cover the worst case scenario for a victim. A few sentences later she's standing with her suitcase at the door because she's afraid for her two younger sisters. Another few sentences later a female friend who offers her a place to stay is chided by her family and friends about the danger and Aishe staining her friends character . A few tense moments later there is no place to run but to the kindly Anils house who verbally offsets everything the neighborhood cat's have said..... he promises he will kill them if they are nasty to her ever again... he knows how many homes would be wrecked if he opened his mouth and told who flirts with him ever day be they married or single. This is re-shown in the humor scenes over and over how cheap the people are who were supposedly worried about her presence staining there reputation. In other words if anyone you see is acting like her father or the neighborhood biddies or the newspaper people or supposed political societies then they are beneath contempt in their behavior. THIS IS ALL VERY FAST MAYBE 15 MINUTES AGAIN

DON'T BE SO BUSY VIEWING IT MAGNIFIED WITH YOUR OWN SET OF JUDGEMENTS TO KEEP IT FROM DELIVERING IT'S MESSAGE.. I teach to all levels of education in traumatic circumstances from all walks of life. Trust me you have to be sneaky ..good kind of sneaky.....just like Anil Kapoors dialogues that were snuck into the fight scenes by the director and writer ... Using an action , drama, musical, validation movie only Bollywood would try to carry off for this topic. Try to remember that they are talking to a huge population with varied education levels and different belief systems. This director doesn't ever GET to forget that even if YOU do.
