Excellent VFM 14 Dec 2010
It's quite amazing just how many tripods there are to choose from, I had spent a lot of time reading reviews and still had no idea which to buy. I am not a professional, wouldn't even call myself a keen amateur really, I just wanted something to plonk my new 1000d with Sigma 70-300mm on. A magazine had done a short article on "tripods for under £100" and this tripod was rated as good value "especially as it can be got for under £30", the fact that it had a built in telescopic monopod did it for me as I thought I would use this more when out walking. A search of Amazon threw up the product and an amazing price of under £23 delivered to SPAIN. I don't know much about tripods but this is certainly a sturdy model and has really good height. The downside is that it is about 2ft long when collapsed, I doubt it would fit comfortably in your hand luggage. It has a "plastic" head and with the weight of a camera and zoom it is smooth to operate ( unlike my previous tripods which were very notchy). The RRP on this is about £65 - at that price I am sure there could be better ones to be had, but I think this one is exceptionally good value especially for someone who does not really want to get bogged down in the cycle/trap of "always buy the best/most expensive". It aint going to fall over without a big push. Ps the spirit levels are a gimmick, you cant really see either with a DSLR fitted.

The monopod collapses to about 12-15 inches (guess) , it's not exactly quick to extend and make sure it is locked, then attach your camera using the QR fitting, but probably less than a minute. It would be nice to have a shoulder strap on it for carrying but I am sure I can work something out.

I am happy with this tripod and would recommend it to anyone who is on a tight budget to get started with. The built in monopod is another good reason to choose this product.

Spoiler - no instructions (where IS the monopod ?), but that means you have to explore the product instead - not altogether a bad thing.

excellent buy 15 Mar 2012
Choosing the right tripod can be a confusing task, especially with so many options available to the aspiring photographer.

The Hama Profil Duo III Tripod is one such model, which offers more than just a standard tripod setup. This model is not only ideal for both photo and video purposes, but it also gives you the option of using it as a monopod as well as a tripod. All you do is simply remove the central column completely, giving you a monopod with up to 164cm of height.

The price includes the three-way tripod head and this features a cork quick-release plate with spirit level. The cork plate, combined with plastic joystick and clips, make this head very light. This is great for portability, but the trade off is that the cork do feel a little cheap.

That said, move down to the tripod legs and the materials look and feel a lot more solid, with wide, matte black aluminium legs and two quick-action leg locks on each. At the end of the legs are rubber caps, which can be screwed upwards to reveal metal spikes for extra support on soft ground.

The whole package of the Hama Profil Duo III Tripod weighs 1.6kg and supports loads of up to 4kg. The tripod system fits neatly into a supplied plastic case with adjustable strap, which I was surprised to see as it was not mentioned in the product's description. It's not the strongest bag in the world, but luckily this is no reflection on the impressive quality and performance of the tripod itself.

Decent for its cost 4 July 2010
The title says all. It's a sturdy tripod. Strong aluminum legs. Pan head type. Extra bonus the removable monopod. The retracting steel spikes are also very useful. Only drawback the rough finish of some plastic parts of the head but otherwise a very good choice for that price range. Certainly a good purchase.
