I rather annoyingly dropped my Sony Camcorder recently, although I fortunately only broke the lens cap. The Camcorder isn't all that old (five or six years, perhaps) but as far as Sony is concerned that's ancient and when I called them I found that they could not help with supply of replacement parts for it. I had a look around on various sites to see if I could source anything and found prices varied enormously, as did postage prices (£15 just to deliver a lens cap...) - then I found this little gem.

It fits the lens even more securely than the original did, with a clamp mechanism; so good that I doubt it could easily be knocked off. It is a good, solid lens cap with excellent grip. I am really pleased with it.

Modern lens caps are easy to remove, and easy to lose. When it happens, will you pay full price for the appropriate Big Name replacement, or half the amount for a Hama? Some photographers will only consider having the same name on the cap as on the camera - fair enough. If you are not one of them, this cap will do the job well - and, anyway, the name is (perhaps deliberately) discreet. The squeeze-mechanism lacks a little precision, hence not five stars, but this cap does a very good job nevertheless. Recommended.

Having been happy with other Hama products, I bought 3 of these lens caps with confidence. They are just OK; the springs seem quite weak so don't grip the filter thread very securely. (Must buy some holders to tie them to the lens barrels.) Also it's quite difficult to grip the tabs with your fingers to compress the springs. Having said that, they are better than my original Pentax lens caps, which are a pain to fit and remove with a lens hood in place. In summary: a little disappointing.

It's OK, it does the job.
It's not a quality product, but it's not Canon and you get what you pay for.
The first one arrived with one of the snap fits missing, so I had to get it replaced. I'm not sure how long this one will last.
It'll do me however, I'd rather lose a cheap one, if it's going to fall off.

I was recently in Ireland and I lost a lens cap and had to find a shop to buy a new one and it cost [...] and when I got home decided to buy a couple of spares and was amazed to find I got 2 lens caps for less than I paid in Ireland and they are just as good value.

Ideal for those who frequently lose lens caps. As long as you don't want some upmarket name on the cap this is fine. It is reasonably priced, it does the job and there are no protruding bits that may be accidentally caught and result in the cap falling off.

Fits well, i.e. true to size. A simple solution if your original cap "exploded" and refused to re-assemble.(Lumix).Major problem is inability to fit cord that attaches cap to camera. Needs two, carefully drilled 1mm holes so cord may be threaded through.

It fits, it is cheaper than others and is good at what it is supposed to do. Why do 'own brands' persist in charging rediculous fees when such lens caps from Hama are available? All it needs now is a sticker, Canon, Olympus, Nikon....
