My little boy came home from school a little while ago having made a pattern with hama beads. He had thoroughly enjoyed it, so Santa, (being the kind person that he is), bought this for Xmas.
At first my son was a little disappointed when he saw the pale colours of the beads. Compared to the very bright colours that he'd used at school they're very wishy-washy. However, put them in the dark and it's a very different story! They really do glow very well and he was so proud when he finished the space rocket, waited until dark and saw it glowing away brightly in his room! The sample patterns for aliens, rocket, ufo and planet are very good and relatively easy to do, and I think it's a great idea to include a mobile hanger. Now, of course, he's wanting more glow beads to make even bigger and better rockets...I think he'll have a whole cosmos in his room before long!
All in all a super little set that will really appeal to little boys in particular - and quite good value too in my opinion. Highly recommended!

My son has behavioural problems so I buy things that help to increase his concentration. He rarely sees tasks to the end and doesnt have much patience so this space themed set was ideal. I think for kids wanting to see the finished mobile it can be a bit of a race to complete it, (but it will take a few hours!). I like the idea that it develop's motor skills. My son completed two of the items, and we both sorted the colours. I finished the project just to keep the peace, we then hid with the lights out to admire our work! Adults will need to be on hand for ironing and hanging the pieces, it can be fiddly. The narrow parts ie legs, antenna etc will need an extra iron as they only join at one point and kept becoming wobbly. There could have been another couple of colours in the pack, there are only three. In normal light they look pale and washed out, however in the dark they glow very bright and the colour is much more intense. I love Hama beads, but not sure I would buy more to make random flat objects (reminds me of our 'bindeez' experience), more sets like this that make functional items would be great though. Well worth the money for a few hours of focused fun!

This kept my 5-year-old busy for a while! The colours glow very brightly when exposed to a desk lamp for a few seconds or if hanging by the window. Brilliant.

Very boring when not glowing!
There are only three colours of bead, and they are all shades of translucent White, which makes it quite boring to look at in the daytime, and quite tricky and boring to put... Read more

My 6 year old loves this toy!
