Before anyone flames me I'm just not interested, what I do with my equipment is my choice..... :-P
For the nice people out there I hope this helps you -
When I bought the FA-DC58B Filter Adapter for my Canon G12 I bought it with the intention of leaving it permanently attached to my G12 for readiness; also UV filter (lens protection benefit included), circular polarizer, etc. The benefit is that the camera is always ready for use but the unfortunate downside to leaving the adapter permanently attached to the camera is that the adapter adds greatly to the overall dimensions of the G12. The new problem is finding a suitable mobile-home for the camera.....
I have spent ages looking for a bag to hold my Canon G12 and its attached FA-DC58B Filter Adapter; I did not want to buy a large camera bag as the concept of a compact camera is portability so my search was for a small bag..... I think I have looked at every bag available on Earth and none were just right until I saw the Sorento 80, I saw its internal dimensions were more or less spot on so I took a chance and ordered the one with the blue details and paid more for it £22.00 as opposed to £8.something for the orange detail one; purely cosmetic preference. I was not disappointed.....
Firstly the G12 + adapter fits in beautifully with quite a bit of room to spare but this spare room can be used to great advantage..... The bag comes with a divider with Velcro ends; this I decided would become a false floor - I put my small Hama tripod on the bottom of the bag then positioned the Velcro divider on top of it, the camera + adapter now sits on the Velcro divider, the camera being on its back; so if you imagine looking down at the opened bag you would see the G12's lens (or lens cap)looking up at you; this is how the camera + adapter best fits in to the bag. There are 2 internal pockets which each hold a 58mm filter (in its case). When the zip is closed I feel the G12 is quite safe; the padding is about 5mm thick on each of the 6 sides (top & bottom included) so instills quite a lot of confidence.
The construction of the Sorento 80 both looks & feels good; I believe it is of quite a high quality and I am anticipating many years of use from it; overall I am very pleased with it.
Tho the Sorento 80 does have a pair of belt-loops the bag feels a bit bulky to carry around on a belt - it could be well be the most sticking-outest bum-bag in existence - I must admit to not having taken the camera + bag out yet to report whether it causes your trousers to fall down whilst walking, it feels ok in the house but the answer will be revealed when I take the camera out when the weather improves.....
The Sorento 80 also comes with a shoulder strap but it isn't really me, if you know what I mean, but I may have to resort to it in the future; time will tell.
To recap what my Sorento 80 contains -
Hama Extendable Mini Tripod
Canon G12 + (attached) FA-DC58B Filter Adapter + UV filter
Circular Polarizer filter (in case)
Neutral Density filter (ND8) (in case).
I also feel there is quite a bit of room remaining for other bits & pieces.
Hope this helps :-)
Jay
P.S. it also does a good job of keeping the dust off the camera whilst in storage :-)
