5.0 out of 5 stars Get this game. 2 May 2015

One cannot deny the nostalgia that this will bring. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is by far one of the best games I have bought for the Xbox one. For multiple reasons.
**I will NOT be including multiplayer in this because that is not why I bought the game.**
Anyway, the game comes with a mandatory update of 18GB on arrival (Has to be done to clear up patches and bugs so we won't be too harsh on it).
Halo Combat Evolved (CE) was the first to install and to my delight I was able to get straight to it. I never completed all the Halo's on Legendary so I have decided to take it upon myself to do so. And wow is it hard. Waves and waves of elites coming at you in glorious redefined graphics or at the touch of a button you can go back to what it was like back in 2001 which is amazing to see the difference. Sometimes it's actually a bit easier to play on the older graphics as there is less foliage so enemies, weapons and grenades are all that bit easier to spot.
Halo 2 is going to be your worst nightmare if you take on legendary. It looks amazing and will really test you and your drive to pass the game on legendary.
With Halo 3 + 4 it's a small bit different as these are that bit easier to complete on Legendary but will still challenge you they are nothing compared to the difficulty of Halo CE or Halo 2.
In short, if you need the nostalgia hit. Get this game. If you need a good Xbox one game. Get this game. If you are looking for a game that has a great in depth story line. Get this game. Basically what I'm saying is get this game, be the legend that is the Master Chief and pass this game on legendary. You can then die a satisfied human being.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Master Chief is back! 11 Nov. 2014

Any updates to how the game plays will be placed at the bottom...

Out of all the games this year, this one has been top of my list and like many Xbox gamers I'm guessing you too are a Halo fan, if you aren't then once you play this you soon will be, I myself can remember playing the original on the very first Xbox, it was a transformative game and the remake of the original on xbox 360 was a huge success.

So what is the Master Chief Collection? It's a remake of Halo's 1-4 on the next generation. Everything has been given some graphical stardust with Halo 2 being given the full monty and extra special treatment. All 4 games are on the one disk and can be played in whatever order you want. Indeed you can create custom playlists consisting of different missions from different games. Story wise, Halo is about saving Humanity from the forces of evil, mainly the Covenant, Prometheans and Flood and is spread across the 4 games in different locations. The locations that all 4 games are set in are stunning, indeed you can just stand there sometimes and admire the beauty (and take a few screenshots as you go)

Graphically the game is a masterpiece, sure there are a few areas as you travel around where you notice the odd rock or object that appears "low rent" almost as if the developers forgot about it or had trouble giving it a new look, it's not a deal breaker and to be honest I'm being a bit picky.

Now some may be thinking, they've missed out Halo:ODST or Halo:Reach and you'd be right simply because those games do not feature the Master Chief so don't throw a paddy over it, just accept they're missing for a reason! However, the good news is you can play through all 4 games in co-op over xbox live (dribble dribble drool drool).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, Bad Multiplayer though 19 May 2015
Platform for Display:Xbox One
The Halo series has the historic distinction of inspiring millions of gamers to spend hundreds of dollars on new consoles just to play it. The Master Chief Collection – which includes all four numbered entries in the series – is a great reminder that Halo succeeded not because of hype or flavor-of-the-month popularity, but because of timeless first-person shooter design. With excellent stories, sandbox battlefields, and great AI, everything holds up against modern shooters, many of which owe a huge debt to Halo’s inspiration. It’s all presented beautifully, with remade graphics and sound that allow old hands like me to relive the glory days through rose-tinted glasses, and new fans to appreciate the classics without having to look past decade-plus-old graphics. However, Halo’s memorable multiplayer modes are undermined by unacceptably unreliable and bug-ridden performance in the days after launch, to the point where I can’t recommend that you buy Master Chief Collection right now for that functionality. That’s heartbreaking, but on the bright side there’s still more than enough single-player and co-op content here to strongly recommend it for those alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Graphics are much better, as is the sounds 18 May 2015

They've remastered / recoloured Halo 1 / Halo 2, and the graphics look quite a bit better. You can also go back to the Halo 1/2 graphics if you want to, just to see what they used to look like.

PERSONALLY I'm not one for rebuying a game, just because it looks pretty ... but my son likes it, and has redone Halo 1/2 and is now working on Halo 3.

I think they've also redone the music, but not 100% sure (so don't quote me on that).

It does sound better than I remember -- but that could also be because I've upgraded my telly. But still - sounds and looks better than on the original xbox/360.

It would be nice if they gave you Halo 5 for free... or even 50% off, but I guess that's marketing...
