Product Description

CD Description

With video-game soundtracks developing into a full-fledged genre of their own, the meticulous remixing, compiling, and production on 2004's HALO 2 heralded the trend. Reworked versions of the video game's original theme music by Michael Salvatori and Marty O'Donnell take up the bulk of the album, with an overall sound that owes a debt to contemporary electronica, New Age ambient, 1970s stadium rock, and orchestral music alike. The surging, cinematic vibe of HALO 2 's original score offsets the alternative-rock and metal acts that populate the rest of the set list.
Breaking Benjamin, for example, mix an epic, guitar-heavy attack with post-punk flourishes on the rousing "Blow Me Away", while Hoobastank, whose"Connected" is included here as a bonus track, recalls the soaring, grungy sound of early Pearl Jam. But it is the extended suite by nu-metal band Incubus that stands out. "Odyssey", split into four movements evenly spaced throughout the soundtrack, touches on prog rock, spacey jams, tribal drumming, and avant-garde jazz-funk, and makes for some of the mostinteresting listening here. Also of note is that HALO 2 is produced by Nile Rodgers; his slicing, high-definition soundengineering makes this carnival of music all the more enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocks my pants, 10 May 2006

The second volume of the halo scores for the game is amazing. It has all of the tracks off the game except those which are on volume 1. Tracks you may have heard on volume 1 like earth city are here but are slighty different. Depending on your own view this may be a bad thing or a good thing but nevertheless it still sounds great. This track also has some of my favourite pieces like where you are driving a spectre on sacred icon or where your fighting the hunters in new mombassa. All the music is great even the music you hear at the end of the credits is brilliant. I can't resist humming to these tunes of holy like singing choir memebers. This aspect of the music give halo a much more deeper feeling and you can't help but think of your favourite moments or parts in the game when you listen to this soundtrack. Even now as i type this review i'm listening to the twanging of the guitar, and shallow wavering run of the violins and the banging and booming of the drums. Unlike its volume 1 counterpart this voulme has no tracks from american bands which sound awful (namely incubus) alough the majority of these were good. And even though it doesn't include The Mjolnir Mix, Blow Me Away or even Peril it still is a great sound to listen to and i suggest you get out and order your copy. (P.S) The new Halo 3 Teaser Trailer has just come out only recently, if your reading this watch it if you haven't already done so, or just go whatch it again its AMAZINGLY BRILLIANT and the music is different but gives it a wonderful feeling of suspense, watch it NOW!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best soundtrack ever!!, 25 Dec 2006
By Noeleen Francis "everynameistakeneventhis" (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This soundtrack is SO good, it has pretty much all the good stuff from the other Cd and none of the shitty songs by shitty American "Rock" bands like Incubus. Far more importantly though, there is a certain pice about half way through that I would like to draw your attention to, it's called Unforgotten and unfortunately it is the shortest track on the album, although longer and better than the version on the game. It is quite simply the best, most moving, most beautiful piece of music ever made, it reminds me of Radiohead's Motion Picture Soundtrack. I used to sit with the game at the menu for ages hoping that this would come on, and of course, typically it's played less often than any other piece on the game. Now that I have this Cd, I don't have to do that, I can just leave it on repeat and listen to it for hours on end, literally. If you have any emotion inside of you, you must buy this Cd because it provides this heart wrenching piece along with many more great tunes.
