Yum!,

This review is from: Halls Soothers Lozenges Blackcurrant 10 (Personal Care)
The trouble I have with soothers is that they taste so yummy, I inevitably bite into them and crunch them rather than slowly sucking them! Soothers can be bought from most supermarkets and newsagents for about 70p. For that, you get a 45g pack of 10 sweets. The sweets are hardboiled fruity sweets with a liquid centre. I usually have the blackcurrant flavour, although there are several equally delicious fruity varieties to choose from. The sweets come in a vivid purple (for the blackcurrant variety) packet, which shows a picture of the sweet cut open and the liquid centre dripping out, backed by some blackcurrant leaves and a caption that the product is made from real blackcurrant juice. The sweets are individually wrapped with white waxy paper, which unlike some sweets, is easy to remove. When you put the sweets into your mouth, you notice the very intense fruity flavour. Nothing subtle here. This is really welcome, because when you have a bad throat, your mouth doesn't taste great, and these sweets really freshen your mouth. They also have a menthol zing, which isn't very strong, but does help clear the airways slightly. The sweets are quite large, and oval shaped. The liquid centre is my favourite part of the sweet. It is deliciously fruity and runny. That is why I always bite these sweets. If you suck them, the centre solidifies slightly and isn't so gorgeous! The nutritional info is on the side of the packet, although the writing is really tiny. It is as follows per 100g, though it would have been more helpful if the information was given per sweet: Cal 385 Protein 0g Carbs 96.6g Of which sugars 65.2g Polyols 2.5g Fat Trace Fibre 0g Sodium Trace I have no clue what polyols are, and the pack does not bother to explain, but as you can see, these sweets are mainly just sugar, and despite the bragging on the packet, only 3% of the product is fruit juice. The product is suitable for vegetarians and the packaging is recycleable. There is a warning that the product may contain nuts(!), but this is only because of the production methods used in manufacture. Halls is owned by Cadbury. So I'm completely divided. Do I like them? Yes. Do I rate them highly as throat sweets? No, but they do taste gorgeous and leave your mouth nice and fresh. The whole biting issue is similar to eating a doughnut without licking your lips. I cannot suck one of these to save my life!
