5.0 out of 5 stars Very Very underrated movie!, 8 Aug 2004
I think that a lot of people write H3 off immediatley simply on the basis that it does not feature Michael Myers (I am ashamed to admit that I was once guilty of this crime myself), however, upon re-watching this movie as a movie in it's own right and not as a Halloween sequel I can strongly say that it is a brilliant and highly entertaining horror movie, here's why:
The plot in H3 is original and interesting - A deranged halloween mask maker is using rock from Stone Henge to make lethal masks that will kill thousands of children on halloween night (a very taboo subject that I admire H3 for tackling), the atmosphere is seriously creepy and mysterious (John Carpenters musical score really contributes to this) and the action is gory and even shocking at times, the scene where a badge from one of the masks blasts an unlucky woman in the face really caught me off guard the first time I saw it (I had the TV on louder than I thought.) There's something unsettling about the whole movie and I really enjoyed it as a result.
The acting is also of a high class with Tom Atkins leading the way, I'm a big fan of Tom's, the 80's wouldn't have been the same without him.
I really think that H3: Season of the witch deserves 5 stars, it is a great movie and though maybe not for everyone I definatley recommend it, just try and put the fact that you miss Michael aside, it took me a while but I managed it eventually and I'm glad I did. (watch out for his cameo appearance on TV)

4.0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable!, 6 Oct 2002
Original, frightening, interesting and unforgettable are'nt words we usaully associate with the Halloween sequels with many of them being repetative, lifeless and boring, this however is not applicable to the third installment to the Halloween saga here the terrifying Michael Myers does not appear and brings a different and interseting slant to the saga. Here a samll town is plagued by a shop owner whose costumes have a catastrophic effect on the local children and lead to many grisely murders. This terrifying film is unforgettable imparticular with the character of the shop owner where every scene is full of tension as his sinister plan is slowly revealed. The effective lightening and haunting music only emphasise the audience fear and with the interesting storyline creates and unforgettable and terrifying film.
The DVD includes such extra features such as documentaries which give an insight into the making of this terrifying film and makes this a must buy DVD!
Be prepared to be scared!

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than people think!, 15 April 2003
The last of the Halloween series to have John Carpenters involvement. Realising that the Michael Myers plot was running a little thin the film-makers decided to adapt the franchise into a series of horror stories set at Halloween, rather than an excuse for rehashing the same character/plot line over and over again. The result is Halloween 3 - Season Of The Witch.

If you bear this in mind when watching it and get over the fact it hasn't got Michael Myers in it, it's actually a really good film... a nice blend of a menacing-black-humoured-intelligent-kids-film, and blood-and-gore-horror... a bit like The Twilight Zone but better!! For this reason a lot of people think it's lacking focus, but i think the blend works really well. (it's all subjective!) And of course at one level it brilliantly comments on the evils of television...

Obviously producer Moustapha Akkad balked at all the fans inability to deal with a Halloween without Myers and so Michael returned in Halloween 4 to commence reliving the same plotlines for years to come!

Unfortunately this region 2 release is pan and scan... i can't believe they still release films cutting such an amount from the picture! for now the only uncut, widescreen edition is region 1.
