Biography

Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
The cliché about David Bowie says he's a musical chameleon, adapting himself according to fashion and trends. While such a criticism is too glib, there's no denying that Bowie demonstrated remarkable skill for perceiving musical trends at his peak in the '70s. After spending several years in the late '60s as a mod and as an all-around music-hall entertainer,… Read more in Amazon's David Bowie Store

Format:Audio CD
This is a very interesting collaboration of David Bowie and the Pet Shop Boys. One of the seminal recordings of Bowie from his early days was the song 'Major Tom', honoured in pastiche and remake of different groups. This piece thematically relates, as the theme of 'Spaceboy' talks not so much about space as in outer space, but rather the space in which we find ourselves (and in some ways, that was a theme of 'Major Tom', too).

The remix has Neil Tennant adding some backing vocals (it is surprising the number of songs of other groups and artists that end up having Tennant in the background). The remix makes this sound much more like a Pet Shop Boys song than a Bowie song, which makes the juxtaposition all the more interesting.

The disc includes a live version of David Bowie's 'Under Pressure' from the mid 1990s, a live version of 'Moonage Daydream', and the LP version of 'The Heart's Filthy Lesson'. The latter song was featured in the Brad Pitt/Morgan Freeman film 'Seven'.

This is an interesting little disc for Bowie fans, Pet Shop Boys fans, or those looking for something a little different but still pop/disco oriented.

^ This review is great except one thing.....The song that the Pet Shop Boys use that is David Bowie's is called "Space Oddity" not "Major Tom".

My thoughts on this single, I love it... I also Love the video that include the Pet Shop Boys with David Bowie and lots of cool Retro Images.
