Respected wine critic and vigneron James Halliday AM has a career that spans over forty years, but he is most widely known for his witty and informative writing about wine. As one of the founders of Brokenwood in the Lower Hunter Valley, New South Wales, and thereafter of Coldstream Hills in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, James is an unmatched authority on every aspect of the wine industry, from the planting and pruning of vines through to the creation and marketing of the finished product. His winemaking has led him to sojourns in Bordeaux and Burgundy, and he has had a long career as a wine judge in Australia and overseas. In 1995 he received the wine industry’s ultimate accolade, the Maurice O’Shea Award. In 2010 James was made a Member of the Order of Australia. James has written or contributed to more than 65 books on wine since he began writing in 1979. His books have been translated into Japanese, French, German, Danish, Icelandic and Polish, and have been published in the UK and the US, as well as in Australia. He is the author of James Halliday’s Wine Atlas of Australia and The Australian Wine Encyclopedia.

My standard reference bible for Australian wines, it is excellent. I am puzzled that the snapshot of the 2013 vintage was blank. I normally buy the paperback but bought the kindle version, this time. Interrogation via the PC app or the Ipad works fine, and is okay on my new kindle paper white. it was a struggle on my old kindle using the vineyard search's.

I have bought several hard copy versions before and found them useful. This Kindle edition is, however, difficult to navigate, with inadequate cross referencing, and is no where near comprehensive enough for it to be useful for a UK wine purchaser.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle edition is terrible 5 Jan. 2014
By Imprecise_matt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The Kindle edition is so bad as to be unusable. No index, no ability to look for wineries by name, search doesn't work. I returned my copy for a refund. Having enjoyed the paper edition for many years, this was really disapointing.
4.0 out of 5 stars The first word on Australian Wine 29 April 2014

Well presented and laid out. Unfortunately not all wineries are listed and some are only available on the online app version. despite this, it has proven to be a very useful book to review prior to making a wine purchase.
