An undercover FBI agent, Sascha Petrosevitch (Steven Seagal), takes bullets for his buddy, Nick Frazier (Ja Rule). Nick figures Sascha for dead until the two are reunited again on duty at New Alcatraz (a hellish, high-tech version of the now-defunct prison). At New Alcatraz, criminal mastermind Lester (Bruce Weitz) is set to be executed. Lester knows the whereabouts of a fortune in gold, but isn't talking. With only hours to live, Lester takes a meeting with Sascha, just as corrupt prison official Donny (Morris Chestnut) and his gang raid New Alcatraz by helicopter and take Lester and a Supreme Court justice hostage. Highly energetic action scenes pay respect to the films of John Woo, and director Don Michael Paul makes many tasteful choices in the film's editing and music.

In 'Half Past Dead', the perfect formulae for a perfect action film can be found. Every single scene is loaded with anticipation, violence and gunfire- a total must for any action film fan. Ja Rule is a brilliant actor, and Steven Seagal matches this role well. Am I alright? No, I'm aite!

This is simply an awesome film which sees Steven Seagal as FBI Agent going undercover in Alcatraz. This movie all so feature Ja Rule who is actually not a bad actor.
If you like guns, prison action, fighting, etc - I garantee you this your kinda movie.

Being a huge martial arts fan,I certainly admire Steven Seagal.He just doesn't get the credit he deserves from his films.I loved the fight scenes in this film.Its practically action packed all the way.A bunch of bad guys invade Alcatraz,determined to get the whereabouts of a massive fortune in hidden gold,from a condemned inmate.They hold a visiting female judge hostage,the actual judge that condemned him to Death Row.Suprisingly,the inmate holds no grudges against her,and allies himself with Seagal to fight for the good guys.The bad guys leader,Morris Chestnut,can be full of charm,but he is determined to see the job done.Nia Peeples plays one of the sexy bad guys(or woman!)I enjoyed her comeuppance.A very good action film,very enjoyable.
