Despite critical roasting, Half Past Dead is, surprisingly, not half bad. Once you recognise this bastard child's recent action-flick heritage (The Rock being the most obvious of a dozen pilfered plot lines), you can kick back and enjoy the unexpected perks that arise when a deep-cover FBI sleuth (Steven Seagal) accompanies a convicted crook (rapper Ja Rule) into "New Alcatraz" prison. A death-row killer (Bruce Weitz) sits on a $200 million goldmine, keeping his secret as a bargaining chip when criminal commandos (led by the ever-cool Morris Chestnut) drop in for a lethally greedy raid. After cutting his teeth on trashy, short-lived US TV series, director Don Michael Paul can't do much to help the puffy, career-tanking Seagal, but he's got lively allies in Ja Rule and alleged "has-been" Nia Peeples (forget Lara Croft, this babe rocks), and even legendary action-TV producer Stephen J Cannell drops in for a cameo. Synopsis
After being shot several times and having a near death experience, an undercover FBI Agent is in anisland prison when a group of commandos raid the facility to extract a con slated for execution whoknows the whereabouts of 200 million in gold. It's up to the undercover agent to thwart them and tosave a Supreme Court Justice who is held hostage.

In 'Half Past Dead', the perfect formulae for a perfect action film can be found. Every single scene is loaded with anticipation, violence and gunfire- a total must for any action film fan. Ja Rule is a brilliant actor, and Steven Seagal matches this role well. Am I alright? No, I'm aite!

This is simply an awesome film which sees Steven Seagal as FBI Agent going undercover in Alcatraz. This movie all so feature Ja Rule who is actually not a bad actor.
If you like guns, prison action, fighting, etc - I garantee you this your kinda movie.

It is totally worth money, so I urge you to go out and purchase movie or order it as you wont be disappointed

Being a huge martial arts fan,I certainly admire Steven Seagal.He just doesn't get the credit he deserves from his films.I loved the fight scenes in this film.Its practically action packed all the way.A bunch of bad guys invade Alcatraz,determined to get the whereabouts of a massive fortune in hidden gold,from a condemned inmate.They hold a visiting female judge hostage,the actual judge that condemned him to Death Row.Suprisingly,the inmate holds no grudges against her,and allies himself with Seagal to fight for the good guys.The bad guys leader,Morris Chestnut,can be full of charm,but he is determined to see the job done.Nia Peeples plays one of the sexy bad guys(or woman!)I enjoyed her comeuppance.A very good action film,very enjoyable.

hi, this is the best seagal film i'v ever seen, it even beats under seige. it has good shootouts and lots of them, the acting was suprisingly good and had a bit of comedy in. Read more
