4.0 out of 5 stars Pacy thriller with chilling bite, 21 Oct 2007
By Maxine Clarke "Maxine of Petrona" (Kingston upon Thames, Surrey United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In this readable and pacy thriller, Nick Dowty loses his business when the bank forecloses. Desperate to save his house and to hold his family together, he dreams up a dangerous scheme to escape his increasingly hopeless situation. Despite all his careful planning, Nick's actions pile on the pressure even more, to screaming point.
I highly recommend Bill Liversidge's excellent book -- it is short, punchy and has a nasty twist in the tale.

4.0 out of 5 stars When one man lets go, 23 Nov 2007
By Minx (Cornwall, England) - See all my reviews
Bill Liversidge asks - what happens when an average family is hit by a one megaton bombshell? In the opening chapters it is clear that the domestic minefield that we find ourselves in is just about to explode into some kind of World War III.
In Nick Dowty, Liversidge has painted a character with few redeeming features, an ordinary man with an ordinary twisted background with some less ordinary ideas about how to climb out of the pit. The author's deft handling keeps the reader turning the page because essentially you could have a Dowty somewhere in your life.
This is a brave book, contemporary, crisp and neatly handled to the final page and you will leave it with your emotions not quite intact. What more could you ask for?
This is the downfall of Nick Dowty, but did he actually have that far to fall?
