Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I have used this very nice item to charge a variety of items, including my iphone from my car, and in hotels across Europe. It is small and therefore takes up little room and for me, the only drawback for me was that whilst it does have a uk and a European adaptor, it doesn't have one for the US supplied, so you have to carry a travel adaptor to convert US to UK or do what I did and found a plug from an old Kodak charger which fitted. Provided that you can do that, the transformer automatically switches to 110v and having tested it whilst travelling on a US SHIP with only 110v available it was fine.

No it isn't perfect, but you have to sacrifice size to accommodate the function and for this it does try to satisfy a number of criteria. For me, it has proven very useful in helping me to charge batteries for my flash unit (AA size), an iPhone via a USB cable,, plus my Canon camera. Certainly better than taking at least 4 chargers with me: AN ESSENTIAL ITEM FOR THE TRAVELLER

Hahnel UniPal Universal Charger with 12V AdaptorThe Unipal Plus is probably the most useful product I've ever bought. I have 5 different types of camera batteries (3 Nikon, 1 Canon, 1 Panasonic). With a quick adjustment of the contacts, the Unipal Plus charges all of them. It also charges a radio transceiver battery, NiMh AA cells, and from the USB output, my iPod, Kindle, Nexus 7 and smartphone.
The charging indicator is both useful and reassuring. The complete charging system plus a USB cable & iPod adapter is compact and light, so perfect for travelling, although I have yet to use the 12v adapter.
This product has become indispensable and now relegated all the other chargers to a box under the stairs.

Bought to charge up a couple of proprietory Li-Ion batteries out of some wee camera lights I had, whose cheapo charger had burnt out. I looked at a few such gadgets and this seemed to be the best designed and most adaptable. So far it's not quite paid for itself yet, but it did allow me to charge up those batteries and so save myself having to throw out a pair of perfectly usable lights for the sake of not having a charger. I've also successfully used it to charge up an Info-Lithium battery from an old Sony video camera, whose charger was lost a long time ago.

The only slightly dubious aspect is the LCD display which is supposed to show charge level. If I charge a battery up to 100%, remove it from the charger and then immediately plug it back in again, the display will often show the charge at around 70% or 80%. Not sure if this is due to the "memory effect" [which Li-Ion batteries aren't meant to suffer from], or some flaw in the charging procedure itself. To be fair, most of the Li-Ion chargers I have [even ones from big brand names such as Canon] exhibit similar behaviour: if I take a battery out of one of my Canon chargers and immediately plug it back in again, it always seems to "charge" for a bit more before the green light comes back on. So maybe the same thing is happening there and it just looks a bit worse with this charger because there's an actual numerical value being displayed.

To start with I was disappointed as it did not seem to charge some of the batteries I have. Hahnel's After sales service was prompt in answering questions and pointing me in the right direction.
As a charger, its design is for 2 AA/AAAs charging at the same time. While this is tedious when I need four, this is not the charger's fault and is simply for information for anyone considering the charger.
The other quirk was that some batteries charge horizontally, some vertically. My fault, I had not realised this until looking at some promo material.
I had rather hoped that it would charge my phobe via USB and camera batteries at the same time, but sadly not.
Overall, the intention was to be able to reduce the number of chargers when on holiday. From that perspective it has proved a good decision.
The charge indicator I find useful, and I think makes it worth the additional couple of pounds over the lower specced model.

I bought this in my local ice shop. It is a brilliant upgrade to the previous version.
It's fabulous. You get the charger, UK and euro plug options, and the car adapter. and an instruction sheet :)

I love the beautiful LCD display, makes it much clearer to understand what is happening, and it tells you in chucks of 10% how much charge is in the battery. :)
It also can be used as a USB charger (5v/500mA) but not at the same time as charging batteries.
It also charges aa or aaa batteries too (which the previous one I had didn't).

Only small 'glitch' I found is that sometimes I had to attach the battery, and then move one of the dials a fraction of a bit to get remind it to get charge into it. But with a clear LCD you can see what is happening and fix it accordingly :)
Instructions are good too, but I need to make a colour photocopy so I can laminate one and still see the go words, on the back of the pictures.

Worked beautiful with the canon dslr batteries and the ixus and another Panasonic battery thingy and mobile phone batteries too.
So for me I've had no issues. Will update if I get any. But I doubt it. Beautifully made. Tough and strong.
Only major thing missing/would improve it further: is a net bag for it to live in as you travel around, to keep the part together.

Oh and it clearly states it is for 3.6/3.7v and 7.2/7.4v lithium ion batteries (this info can be found on the batteries you want to charge).
