Triad 40 Lite

The Triad 40 is constructed of sturdy yet lightweight aluminum alloy. The main tripod casting is made from die-cast composite which gives you a perfect balance between stability and rigidity. With a maximum load of 5kg the Triad 40 gives you the flexibility of using almost any camera equipment - you will not only be able to use all DSLR cameras but also semi-pro camcorders; both with long lenses. This compact tripod extends to a maximum height of 1513mm allowing your camera to be placed almost to eye level. With the Triad 40's rigidity you can even take photographs using telephoto heavy lenses and still have absolutely no camera shake. Macro photography can be tricky and complex, therefore finding the right tripod that can be lowered very close to the ground is critical.

The centre column of the Triad 40 can be easily reversed allowing you to mount your camera upside down and literally put the lens all the way down to the point where it almost touches the ground. The Triad 40 has a built-in spirit level for optimal alignment. A tripod head with a built-in bubble level can be an extremely helpful feature especially when your tripod legs aren't equally extended on uneven ground. The Triad 40 has three leg clamps which easily un-clip into four sections. When the legs are extended, the tripod becomes more stable retaining its sturdiness. The legs can be individually angled at any one of four different positions allowing the tripod to be used at heights from 24.8cm-152cm. When the tripod is folded down it measures just 61.5cm, including the head and fits easily into the carrying case supplied.

Quality

The Triad 40 Lite is made using the best material available to us. The legs and centre column of the Triad 40 are constructed from high quality, lightweight aluminum alloy material which is ideal for tripods. Aluminum alloy gives incredible rigidity and makes the Triad 40 almost as light as carbon-fiber constructions. The main casting of the tripod is the central point where all the weight accumulates and therefore it has been designed to survive the heaviest loads. To provide the best quality and to make sure that our tripod will serve you for many years, we have decided to use a die-cast composite for constructing of the main casting section. Bad weather conditions will no longer be a problem as the Triad 40 was designed to survive even the toughest weather conditions. To make sure that the legs of the Triad 40 will always stay solid and not lose any stability after years of use, we have developed an easy lock system that over time can be re-adjusted by an allen key which is included with the tripod.

Freedom of Movements

It is important for every photographer to have flexibility when positioning a tripod whilst on location. Ball heads are fast to set up and they provide great flexibility in positioning the camera. The Ball Head of the Triad 40 is constructed using metal alloy which is a heavy duty, durable material. The head pans round 360° degrees in one fluid action so that you can move the camera around without having to move the legs of the tripod. Free smooth movements in all directions will give you an extremely convenient operation. The Triad 40 Ball Head is fast to set up and provides great flexibility in positioning the camera. You will feel the difference.

You can easily lock the head into place on the Triad 40 with just one single twist action. This is a great feature when you are framing your subject and is also a huge advantage with Macro photography. The Triad 40 is equipped with a quick-release dovetail sliding plate with a dual locking system that allows you to quickly change over from a stills camera to a video camera. You could then have a plate on each camera allowing you to save valuable time and quickly lock into place. The Triad 40 has very sturdy fully adjustable legs with easy-lock system. The legs can be individually angled at any position and locked in 4 different angles (25°/ 45° / 75° and 135°). For those of you who are keen on outdoor photography such flexibility is a great additional feature if you want to position the tripod securely against a wall, tree or uneven surface.

Security

The Triad 40 360° Ball Head is equipped with a quick release secure lock system. Each time you wish to detach the quick release plate you simply press the secure lock button first. This type of lock provides protection against accidental release of the plate and is an additional security feature to prevent you from dropping your camera equipment on the ground. You can be assured that your expensive photo gear is safe while using our tripod. The 4-section legs have been equipped with specially designed easy lock system. It’s not only easy to open and secure the lock, but you can also re-adjust it with an allen key (included with the tripod). Thanks to this feature you can be sure that our easy lock system provides secure locking over time and none of the legs will fold down even if you are using a maximum load.

The 360° Ball Head will provide total flexibility for your photo shoots and pan 360° rotatable head base with angle alignments that will help you to take perfect panoramic shots or even record a shake free video panoramas.

The bottom end of the centre column is finished with a 3/8” screw which allows you to mount an additional head or just screw in a hook (included). By using this hook you can provide extra weight for better stability of the tripod or just hang a camera bag on it. The quick release plate with secure lock system will prevent accidental dropping of your equipment.

The centre column is also reversible which is very convenient for macro photography with the lowest point of shooting at 0cm (ground level). On the bottom part of the column you will find a 3/8” screw that can be used to mount an additional tripod head or a hook (included with the tripod).

I took a chance on this tripod, and I have to say I am very happy with it.
It is very fast to use and is really rigid without being springy.
The ball joint is very large and locks easily with no signs of slip (Pentax K20D with 300mm (35mm) lens).
The flick locks are nicely aligned so that they can be locked in place by running your hand around each section. Two position leg angle is good with the widest setting making a stable platform with just one section extended (perfect for macro work close the ground).

Having used various small to medium sized tripods for over 30 years, I sought out a suitable one to take with me on my upcoming visit to Iceland. As it will be nearly daylight for 24-hours each day and wanting to use neutral density filters to create soft water flows etc. a rock-steady tripod, capable of supporting my Nikon D90 DSLR, with battery grip attached, was the ideal. However, I am not the strong and fit young man I was when I first started taking travel pictures around the world, so weight and storage size was important too.

Looking at other, more prestigious manufacturers products, reading reviews and looking at Youtube videos (where would we be now without the Internet) I stumbled on a review that mentioned that the best travel tripod was the Hahnel Triad 30. After more Internet research I ordered the Triad 30, but later changed to the Triad 40, as the legs were 3mm broader and thus stronger. The D90 also takes great video clips and the Triad 40 was advertised to be more suited to pan or create time-lapse images.

Having been to Iceland before, I know that rarely is it able to erect a normal tripod on the uneven ground that is found in that barren land. Therefore, the ability to move each leg independently of another, locking at three different angles, was another must for me. The extra bonus was the ability to shoot at very low levels, practically at on the ground. This last facility led me in a somewhat strange direction to ordering another product, from eBay this time as Amazon are not selling the particular model I liked. That being the 2.5" LCD Live View Wired Remote Control Shutter. This little beauty plugs in to the Video out and the wired remote sockets and will allow me to view in my hand on the LCD screen what I am about to take.

Five stars for me with this tripod. Very well made and sturdy for the price paid. Looks a lot more professional than the money suggests. Have now tried outdoors on top of a hillside and works as good as indoors once set up correctly. I dithered over this or a much dearer model thinking i would eventually throw this and have to buy the dearer one in the end, but really, this is excellent and i am so glad i did plump for this one.

Recieved my Tripod in good timley fashion as always from Amazon. Now to the tripod. I had looked around at tripods twice the price and even though they might be slightly sturdier I think that this tripod for the price is very good. (same price as the Triad 30 Lite). Easy to set up, the legs lock into place very well. No issues with build quality and I liked the fact it has a spirit level at the top of the frame. All in all good value.

I was looking for good value for money and I found it. This is a great piece of kit that I am using with
my D5000. The tripod is light and stable at the same time and is really easy to carry as it comes
with a bag. The ball-head is big enough and the plate gives proper support for the camera, all moving
smoothly and you can lock it in any position. I would recommend this tripod to anyone as I think that
it is worth every penny I spent on it.

    Pros:
    - ballhead
    - very good value
    - great for sideways shooting
    - not too heavy

    Cons:
    - the pad that attaches to the camera is hard to attach / detach to the tripod (compared to other tripods I've used) although it seems to attach in a more stable way
    - 4 part legs - maybe they save 5cm of the length when packed but I think they might make it less sturdy

Loved it for the first few months, however not having had this product for a full year bits started falling off (release button for the legs & the rubber feet) also the ball head keeps slipping when locked. Unfortunatley no option to return it as its past the 30 days, if i had brought it from a shop i would get my money back as it is still within the standard 12 months guarantee.

The Hahnel Triad is a very solid bit of kit - its possibly the cheapest ball joint tripod on the market.
Obviously, cheapness does not normally relate to quality, but in this case it does.

The amount of times I have bought the cheaper option on amazon and regretted it, this time however there were no regrets.

    Pros

    >Quality similar to tripods 4 times the price
    >Solidly made
    >Ease of use

    Cons

    >Heavy
    >Carry bag is a bit flimsy and plasticy
    >Some users have reported wear and tear of the ball joint
