Really useful bit of equipment if your out and about for the day or need that extra time using the camera, saves changing the battery over. Batteries last well although these are not included with the item. Also has the feature of being able to use AA batteries in case of an emergency. Quite comfortable to hold but has made my Canon 7D a lot heavier. I only use this if required in certain circumstances. I still haven't got round to using the remote so I cannot comment on this function. The real bonus is the price compared to a genuine Canon grip, and the build quality, seems to be very well made and robust. Highly recommended.

I purchased this grip from another supplier in November 2012 but I think it is worth hearing of my experience. I am a relatively heavy user of my EOS 7D but I do look after my equipment. I usually only buy Canon equipment and I wish I had never wasted the money on this Hahnel grip.
The first problem with the grip was that battery life was very short even when not in use i.e. there was a high drain rate. The grip was replaced by the supplier but the same problem occurred. The next problem was that the AA battery pack would not work. This was replaced by Hahnel but the replacement also did not work so presumably there was a problem in the grip. Finally, one of the battery retaining clips broke and this cannot be repaired. So I purchase a genuine Canon grip. The battery life is excellent. The battery retaining clips look like they are made of high quality plastic unlike in the Hahnel grip.

I bought the HC-7D some months ago for my Canon just before a trip to Nepal. I've only just got around to testing the grip with AA cell batteries, 2 days before I go to Nepal. It doesn't work. Looking at the AA cell battery adapter it is clear that two of the battery connections are not properly terminated. The build quality is poor. I would not buy this device again. If you need extra (AA cell) battery capacity, I would advise buying more Canon batteries.

Grip was okay, didn't feel all that good though in terms of its 'plasticky' feel. I sent it back for a refund as the remote didn't work. Other than that the grip attached well and did its job as a twin battery holder and vertical format grip. Quite heavy too.

Looks the part and does the job!

Less complicated than the previous "replacement" grip which had a timer - which I never really understood - and it is somewhat cheaper than an original Canon grip.

Unfortunately the remote control did not work (replacement on its way I am told) so cannot comment on whether it is good or not.
