Great piece of kit 11 Mar 2010
Now this really is a great piece of kit for professionals and amateurs alike. I've had one for a few months. It builds on the previous Pro remote model, awarded Digital Photos Gear of the Year 2009. First, it has a great range but in addition to the standard release function there is both a basic timer and an interval timer programme. These can be set for single shots or continuous bursts. Another function allows you to programme intervals of long or short exposures. I have used this device to great effect on remote cameras while shooting weddings. For landscapes and changing light it's also excellent, as an example on a clear evening set the camera on bulb, place it in a window and shoot a series of star trail images over the roof tops through the night. Wildlife, especially bird photography, is another area where it excels. Positioning and hiding the camera while triggering the shutter from a hide or inside a building will give you some great results. I don't often rave about kit but the Giga T Pro really affords photographers some first class opportunities for creative flexibility.

This is an excellent piece of kit.
The build feels a little flimsy, but is of a satisfactory standard.
It requires a modicum of sense and trial and error using the supplied manual. The manual is short but detailed and the remote control is remarkably versatile once mastered.

Works very well 15 Jan 2011

This radio remote controller works very well & is highly flexible in that it can control how long the shutter stays open on the camera's "B" setting; the interval between shots, the interval between bursts of shots; the number of bursts & their interval; the time delay before a single shot, burst etc. This controller can be set to combine all the previously mentioned functions. It can also be set to single or continuous release.
The instruction leaflet is best described as adequate rather than great. After reading it a couple of times, the operation became clearer.
I originally bought this remote from Jessops for £79. A screw was missing from the transmitter so back it went for a refund! The supplied Nikon lead is right-angled at both ends & has a metal locking ring that fits my D700 well enough. It did fail to work once until I realised the jack-plug end wasn't fully inserted into the receiver. This part has a small LCD display that shows the channel number & has a locking ring for the hotshoe mount. The transmitter has a back-light & a 2 stage release button so that the camera can be set to focus then release its shutter. The 2.4GHz transmitter can be set to 99 different channels so should not suffer from false releases unless you are extremely unlucky! The build quality is fair to good but I would suggest the controller is stored either in a plastic bag/pouch or a bag compartment by itself to avoid the display getting scratched.
I would choose this remote over Nikon's own devices any-day, especially the cheap IR one. If you to feel this Hahnel is either overkill (many of the more advanced functions are going to be available on your camera anyway), consider a wired remote if appropriate t you needs. The remote doesn't need to be slotted into the camera's hotshoe & can be left to dangle or tethered by some means, therefore a flashgun can be fitted as normal. AFAICT, the only difference between the models for differing makes are the leads but I'm not sure if you can buy them separately from Hahnel - I would be very disappointed if you can't!
Recommended. The supplied batteries needed replacing much sooner than I expected. The receiver can be switched on or off whilst the controller switches off automatically.

working ok so far
works... range OK,functionality fine, leads... are leads... Bit on the plasticy side but, there again, sheds loads more for a proper one that can be trod upon just as easily.

Very good
Does what it says for a Nikon D90.

I was careful choosing the cable having read the reviews and risks and had no problems. It's true the manual is not that clear. Read more
