Hagar the horrible is an old classic most of us have read in the newspapers.

It's fascinating to see how timeless this comic is. Even the 73-74 vintage holds its own today.

Me and my family, right down to my 11 year old sister, love Hagar the Horrible. The characters are brilliant. I also find it a good present to get for friends when I'm not sure what to get them as i can be fairly sure none of them have even heard of it. So far they all seem to have enjoyed it too.

A giant of a strip 26 Oct. 2009
By C. Wagner - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
A nice biography by Dik's sons begins the tome along with the illustrated main characters. This is indeed an historical reprinting of a monumental comic strip. But, I have two disappointments. The first daily was February 5, 1973, but, according to King Features Syndicate, the Sunday was "launched" February 4, 1973. (I had thought, perhaps, there was not a Sunday for the first two years.) I would have raised my rating to 4 l/2 stars if the introduction had only mentioned a collection of Sundays was in the works, even in black and white, which would have actually been closer to Browne's originals. My second point is that the subtitle says 1973-1974, but the book closes out June 18. Foolish me! I had expected the entire year! This having been said, this book is still a must purchase for anyone interested in the history of comic strip art.

It's about time! 23 Oct. 2009
By Matthew W. Wilson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I love the current trend of reprinting classic comic strips in book form. Peanuts, Beetle Bailey, Prince Valiant, Terry & The Pirates, Rip Kirby, Bloom County, Dick Tracy, Little Orphan Annie, and a host of others! Now Hagar The Horrible has finally reached us! It's about time. This classic strip could have been lost but thank heaven that someone decided to reprint them. I agree with the other reviewer on the size being a bit small but I'll take it. I will end up disappointed if the other volumes do not come out in this series. I am hopeful it will sell well enough to continue. PLEASE BUY A COPY and keep em' coming. Great storyline. Great artwork. Fun strip.

Great and small 5 Nov. 2009
By K. Högvall - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a great book, with great comics, and great production values!

But, it is also a small book. This is no real drawback (you can actually read it in bed with no problems), it is just that most of us are by now used to the Terry & The Pirates, Little Orphan Annie, Dick Tracy-sized books. This one is the exact same size as the Complete Peanuts volumes (but with only two strips per page instead of three), and about three-quarters as thick.

Just be prepared for the (relatively) minute size, and you will NOT be disappointed!

My lifetime companion strip! 7 Nov. 2009
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

WOW! I'm SO glad this book is out! NOT to tell anyone my life story here, but a childhood condition kept me from having lots of friends early on in my life. Being born in 1964 I was the PERFECT age when Hagar came out. Hagar and other comic characters became my friends as I was an avid reader of many of the strips of the day. Hagar had a special fondness in my heart. I remember the first favorite t-shirt my mom ever bought me was a Hargar shirt!

The strips contained in this strip are SO FUNNY! It's amazing how day in and day out these strips just shine. It's a quick read of course, but it's full of laughs... and it keeps you wanting more.

I DO hope that other editions are to follow including collections of the color Sunday's.

Great book, great price, tons of laughs!
