Barri Jones was for many years Professor of Archaeology at the University of Manchester. David Wooliscroft, formerly one of Professor Jones' PhD students, is now a specialist on Hadrian's Wall and an experienced air photographer in his own right; he has recently published 'Roman Military Signalling' (Tempus 2001)

Had assumed from the title that the book would be more visual. It was a present for an Italian friend with limited English and so was only a limited success.
