Product Description

Aura Noir were formed in 1993 by Aggressor (Virus, ex-Cadaver, ex-DHG, ex-Ved Buens Ende) and Apollyon (Immortal, ex Cadaver, ex-DHG). Tired of much of the black metal that was emerging from their native Norway at the time, they sought to create a dirtier, thrashier form, drawing inspiration from Slayer, Sodom and Kreator. Hades Rise follows on from where 2004's highly-rated, The Merciless (the debut release on Tyrant Syndicate, Darkthrone's Peaceville imprint) left off. Without doubt, the band's biggest machete to the face to date, Hades Rise embraces the spirit of bands like Venom to serve up a life-threatening overdose of skull-splitting, ear-busting filth and fury. Self-produced in Apollyon's cellar studio, the album contains guest appearances from Danny Coralles (Autopsy, Abscess) and the band's former guitarist, Blasphemer (ex-Mayhem).

Format: Audio CD
Although not as instantly catchy as Deep Tracts of Hell or the Merciless; given time, I think this album proves itself to be superior to its predecessors.

Not as chaotic as previous albums, in Hades Rise Aura Noir seem to concentrate more on building up tension that is unleashed by vocalist Apollyon's periodic fits of rage (accompanied by some of the best riffs the band have written). It's a really good album, and very accessible after the first few listens, managing to avoid repetition and remain fresh. The album aesthetics are really lovely as well, the CD cover is awesome and there's a cool little photo collage inside featuring the band and Fenriz among others.

My only gripe is that it's too short at 38 minutes, but to be fair I've rarely come across a black thrash album that exceeds 50.

Very cool

Another under-appreciated band that is amazing (why are all the good bands from Europe?). True black metal thrash at its best! Makes me want to pit just thinking about it!
