Product Description

Product Description

The 1930s were a troubled era, and England was a land of contrasts. This work gives a vivid impression of growing up in a working-class family in the East End at this time. It should be of interest to anyone who remembers the interwar years, and anyone interested in London's social history. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

The author's life mirrors mine in a quite uncanny way. We lived nearby to one another, attended the same schools, but he did it all about seven years before me. He even mentions the same school teachers, including the remarkable Mr Verrier.

This review is probably biased because of the foregoing, but even without that it's a good read for anyone with any interest at all with the time and place.
