Product Description

One of today’s biggest ‘world music’ stars Natacha Atlas has created an outstanding body of work which includes many incredible collaborations with artists such as Nitin Sawhney, David Arnold, Jocelyn Pook, Jah Wobble and Transglobal Underground. For the first time on one compilation ‘Habibi’ collects together her finest collaborations alongside favourites from her solo career and includes three previously unreleased songs. Her music has been influenced by many styles including Arabic, hip hop, drum ‘n’ bass and reggae. She began her career as part of the world fusion group Transglobal Underground and has since released seven solo albums and been a part of numerous collaborations. Her version of “Mon Amie La Rose” became a surprise success in France, reaching 16 on the French Singles Charts in 1999. Natacha Atlas is a name synonymous with the musical meeting point between the East and the West.

I'm a Natacha fan but questioned buying this as I have a lot of the tracks already - but the new and different stuff here makes it more than that - actually superb collection - and at an almost give-away price.

A Gamble that Paid Off - and how!! 3 Sep 2013
By Brendan P. Delany - Published on Amazon.com

I've always been a fan of a wide variety of music. John Peel (BBC) & Mark Cagney (RTE) were 2 djs who, shall we say, broadened my palette when it came to expanding the whole genre of music. First heard Rachid Taha, Khaled, Tinariwen, Ali Farka Toure, Fela Kuti on the radio - to hear just these few can help explain where so many subsequent music styles had their roots. Natasha Atlas is a marvelous artist. This CD showcases the influences and roots that have made her such a huge international star. Highly recommended.
I LOVE IT! 13 Mar 2014

She's so talented! The way that she sings is so sexy! This album is incredible and exotic! She just sings, does not yell like other singers do. She's a great singer. I HIGHLY recommend this album!
natacha's universe 30 Jan 2014

Natacha Atlas is in her own universe and the lot of us are fortunate to be able to share the soundtrack of that universe. This compilation is a wonderful mix of older material from her Transglobal underground and Jah Wobble days right up to her more recent material. There are a number of unreleased tracks and some samples of her collaborations with other artists. Wether you are in the mood for some of her electronic songs or the purer acoustic sound of some of her more Egyptian material, it's all here. And it's all good. Musicians like her make our universe a little bit more interesting. and I'ld like to thank her for that!
A Treasure 16 Jan 2014

This wonderful CD, a combination of wide-ranging songs which includes everything from primarily Middle Eastern-based to American Broadway tunes (Whatever Lola Wants) to classic Blues (I Put A Spell On You) is an excellent purchase I will treasure for years. The melding of Middle Eastern and Western language, song-writing, and use of instruments is truly impressive. It's a courageous endeavor to mix so many different types of songs and genres, but to also have it work so well is the ultimate success. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending this as an excellent buy. I expect to listen to these songs for decades.
