Product Description

The HUE USB camera is a cost-effective alternative to a standard classroom document camera/visualiser. Easy to use and portable, this camera is popular with teachers and students throughout the world.

The camera is 'plug and play' on Windows PCs and Macs (see System Requirements) and compatible with most video conferencing, streaming and web-casting software i.e. Skype, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, iChat, FaceTime, uStream etc.

By connecting your HUE camera to your computer and a projector you can share students' work, books, experiments and pictures.

Use the camera for real time live video and for recording sound and video. The HUE USB camera produces excellent image quality even when projected onto a whiteboard.

The built-in microphone allows you to record your presentation or a student speaking about a topic. With its weighted base and flexible neck, HUE can also be used to magnify very small items such as insects, circuit boards and more to share them with the whole classroom.

I've been very happy with this webcam in the couple of weeks I've had it. I wanted a Mac compatible cam to use with Skype and this does the job well. The CD that comes with has drivers on that are easy to install. Then just plug the cam in (USB 1 or 2, although slower refresh on USB 1). Setting the video options in Skype was a doddle too and now I can make video calls whenever I want. The sound and image quality seem fine.

My only comments to balance the review is that focus is a manual affair, so you can be blurry if you don't get it right or move the camera about to look at other things - which the bendy stalk is handy for of course.

Also that whilst plugged in the bright blue light on the base is a bit annoying. Therefore I unplug it when not in use. If I then start Skype without plugging in the cam first, I have to set the video options again. This is no doubt a Skype issue, but if the silly blue light wasn't on, I wouldn't get into the situation.

Hope that was helpful. Justin

The drivers for this webcam are very quick and easy to install on Vista. The picture is very clear and crisp on chat sites, the flexible stand is a brilliant idea- it lets you put the camera at the anlge you WANT, as opposed to most cameras, when you have to make-do with best angle you can get. The extension lead which is included is very useful.
I must also note the excellent service from the seller. I placed my order on a Friday morning, had the dispatch advice email on Friday afternoon and recieved the camera on Saturday morning. VERY impressive!

Great webcam, clear and sharp, easy to set up and use with msn etc. Thew trouble is that the built-in microphone is a gimmick to make you buy this webcam obver some others you may be considering. The microphone is poor. Even on maximum input levels it is just too low to use on messenger sites or to record sound to the PC.

No end of adjustments to properties or input levels made any difference.

Shame because the camera is great.

if all you need is a webcam then this is fine. but if you need a microphone too, avoid it. Either buy another product that works or resign yourself to having a camera and microphone separately connected.

Although the price tag is tempting enough to purchase this item, please don't. I installed it on my mac mini and the camera worked fine for 2 skype calls. It has since stopped working altogether and only the microphone works. It is really poor quality, with cheap plastic bits making a lose casing. I really advice you NOT to buy this.

This camera provides fairly good quality for the money. Technically it works well and have had no problem with it, mainly using it for Skype.

But.... (big but).... the whole bendy neck thing - it's a nice idea, but in practice, for use with video calling, it's irritating. I wish I had bought a 'clip to screen' model instead. The problem..... when you are talking to someone, you want to be looking at each other, face on. With this camera sitting next to your screen, your video chat buddy sees your face at a 3/4 view - annoying for them and you. I've resorted to wedging it between my screen mount and the wall, peering over the screen at me, and not surprisingly, it does fall off quite often! I would recommend you think carefully about why you would want a desktop mounted webcam over a clip on one.

I use this mostly for projecting up onto a screen small detail things I want my class be able to see. Great range of focus lengths and crisp focus make it ideal for this. Very stable, even when plugged directly into the laptop's USB port without using the stand.

I bought this camera shortly before the system software upgrade 10.6.3 and it worked perfectly with Skype. I did not use the camera again until shortly after installing the new system update and found that it did not work. I contacted the seller (premier-express) thinking that the camera was faulty. They responded quickly and made enquiries. They informed me that the camera (and most other web cams) would not work with Skype since the new software upgrade. Evidently Skype are now working on this problem and will in the future bring out an update. They offered to allow me to return the web cam should I wish. I decided to keep the web cam because I was able to use it with parallels desktop running Windows XP. One can also use Apple QuickTime to take still pictures. This is not entirely satisfactory, but to their credit premiere-express have offered to allow me to return the web cam should Skype not produce a software upgrade in the near future.

I had no complaints with the camera it produces good quality pictures and allows me to position the camera wherever I want. I have a 30 inch Mac monitor so a clip on camera would not be ideal. Apart from the software problems that I've had I would recommend this product which I believe is good value for money.

I am new into using Skype and have a desktop PC without a built in webcam. With no prior experience of using a webcam I was at a loss as to what model to go for. My needs are fairly basic but I wanted as good quality device as possible without paying over the odds. I had looked at numerous models and read the associated user reviews. In the end I liked the look of the Hue HD and the fact that it would stand on the desk alongside my monitor. It was also recommended by the seller out of the models on offer. I have not been disappointed. It was easy to set up (once the PC software had been adjusted to use the USB camera as the default) and has been used ever since. Not had any complaints from those at the other end, although there has not been that many.
