This record is amazing. It makes me think, by turns, of Brian Wilson's Smile, early Cardigans, Fleetwood Mac (think Sara), Devendra Banhardt, and Sing Sing's first record. Full of melodious songs with an incredible pallete of sounds - acoustic guitars ringing, eletric ones buzzing, drums in fascinating rhythm, bass, horns, strings, piano, accordion, you name it and you might find it... Lafourcade has a delightful voice, sweet, warm, pretty, dark, fragile, strong. The record brims with great harmonies and inventive melodies as well. Lafourcade's songs are upbeat for the most part but have internal moments, elegiac alongside bouncey, the shift smooth and making perfect sense audially and emotionally. Hm. She sings most of her songs en Espanol, but if you don't understand, no matter, it'll impact you all the same. Do yourself a wonderful favor if you like offbeat but tuneful 'indie' music and get this!!!
A year before she put out Las 4 Estaciones del Amor, which sounds like this sans the pop/rock instrumentation, replaced by strings - a 4 long song suite and absolutely fantastic.
