HTML 5 yup a waste of time at the moment. I think you may want to look at CCS3 and even thats still in development. Maybe come back in 10 years :)

The book provides enough information for smart people to get up and running. However it was extremely simple and doesn't even scratch the surface of publishing with html5. The information is not enough to do any serious production ready work. The learning curve that you will have trying to look up resources online will not be any flatter because of this book.

There are good code examples however these are extremely basic and all the resources point to other content that will presumably teach you for real (for a price). Presumably this book is free simply to point you towards paid resources by the same publisher.

Yes why did I even try this after the previous "free". Well can't justify. But yes this one was a tad bit better than previous free book but again not good enough to merit any change in rating. You could download this only if you've not programmed or you want to see a random example of <canvas>. I would recommend rather google.

HTML5 for Publishers is a tutorial aimed at publishers who want to expand their ebooks beyond traditional text-and-graphics. This ebook addresses how to add Canvas, Geolocation, and Audio/Video.

It starts with a brief tutorial on HTML and JavaScript and then move to specific examples that put HTML5 in action.

(1) The specific demos include a graphic calculator that uses Canvas.
(2) Finger painting application for drawing pictures on a page
(3) Demp of how an ebook can be customized with the reader's current location
(4) An audio-enabled glossary that lets you hear each term
(5) Embedded video along with instructional text to supplement the video

You get the actual code for the example from a web download specified in the book along with the explanations. The explanations are clear, the examples are complete, the author allows portions of the code to be re-used without asking for permission.

I liked the author also states the compatibility with major EPUB reader platforms for each feature.

This is an excellent tutorial, it exceed my expectations in both clarity and completeness.
