HTML is sooo easy with easy steps,
By michael (romford, essex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HTML in Easy Steps (Paperback)
As part of a new job, I was tasked with taking over the development of my companies(a small Charity) web site. They had previously had some 'professional' help, but the guy was unreliable at keeping dates, and often just uncontactable. How hard could it be I thought to myself. Well, I had a popular web design package and cracked on. But just couldn't get it to do what I wanted and where I wanted. I tried looking at what the previous guy had done, but it made no sense. I had previously got the Easy Steps guides to 'Web Page design' & 'Creating Web Pages' but excellent though they were, they didn't go into enough detail on the code etc. I visited my library and borrowed a HTML book, which was unfortunately by another publisher, and it was rubbish. It glossed over the basics and didn't explain anything, just thrusting code at me. I decided to get the Easy Steps book on HTML, and what a revelation. After only a few hours I was able to make alterations to the web site, and a week later I had effectively re-written the whole thing, spending less and less time on the web design page and more and more on the HTML page. I cannot recommend this book more, to someone who is either starting out or relatively new to web design, I have now proceeded on to the Easy Steps books for Javascript and Java, and will stick with this range which, after having tried several other similar ranges, I have decided is by far the best out there. In summary, this book (and other in the Easy Steps range) are well written, logical and informative, faultless! It does exactly what it says on the cover...........

Best introductory HTML book,
By
This review is from: HTML in Easy Steps (Paperback)
This, in my opinion is the best introductory guide to HTML that I have seen. I have been using HTML for a while, and have in fact taught HTML on an Access to HE course. Even so, there were a number of things that were new to me. As a consequence, I checked all my HTML books, many of them far bigger than this, and found that I could not find these topics. I can only conclude that the book is right up-to-date.
What I like is the clear presentation, and the modern emphasis of doing everything in a style-sheet if at all possible. Each topic is broken up into simple chunks / steps that last for 1 or 2 pages. There are nice simple examples that involve a few lines of code, a very clear explanation and a screen-dump depicting what you would expect to see on the screen. I only wish I had this book a number of years ago. I certainly could have put together a better HTML course if I had.

Grood for beginners of HTML 4!,
By
This review is from: HTML in Easy Steps (Paperback)
If you are just starting HTML then this book is for you. It covers HTML in sufficent detail for a beginner. Don't expect advanced stuff in this book. It teaches you like you are in primary school.
My problem with this book is that it covers HTML 4 which in my view is dated. I think its better to get a version that covers atleast XHTML Transtional. So in my opinion, thi one is not very useful though you can still exrapolate the lessons to XHTML.
